Does he stay?
This isn't an argument regarding talent as his balls out style of running is a joy to watch, but with Chris Ivory again sitting out with a hammy already I just want to ask this. If Chris doesn't stay healthy this season, will he be cut next year?
|
Alot to be said for dependability, I say yes if the injuries continue.
|
To answer your question: no, he won't get cut next offseason, because he'll be a RFA, so if the Saints no longer need his services - they just won't try to re-sign him.
|
Well, he is a blast to watch. I would say more than any of the other backs we have. I'm not saying he is our best, just the best to watch.
Now Finsaint is right, he wont be back then next year. Rb are a dime a dozen at the 3rd or 4th spot on a roster. |
Agreed, he is certainly entertaining to watch, but unfortunately that brutal running style seems to make him susceptible to injuries.
|
I don't think that his running style has anything to do with his injuries. This is a training/stretching preparation issue.
|
limit his touches until the playoffs where he could be a nice boost...a wildcard so to speak...

Until Ingram can prove he can stay healthy as well, all 4 should stay, unless some UDFA makes a PT type splash in training camp.
I think the new NFL is going running back by committee. We have 4 really good ones and they all have minor flaws. Now if Ivory misses the majority of camp, I can see him being a final cut since its unlikely any team will sign him. |
Ivory is just another piece of the puzzle, and not one of the corner pieces.
He fits somewhere in the middle and can be replaced by an ever expanding pool of available pieces. When we need his services, he needs to be ready, especially from the 4 spot. I like his power and strength down hill. Those gifts are useless on an exercise bike. |

I agree that he could probably do lot in the training room to better prepare his physique to the pounding he gets, but I think that his running style also contributes to this as well. His running style reminds me a lot of Marion Barber, very upward with closed hips, and like Barber, Ivory has had a multitude of lower body injuries because he never seems to lower his pad level to absorb the incoming hits. Barber retired at 28 largely because of the injuries, and as of know it strongly looks like Ivory is headed down that same road. Still, a heavy diet of Pilates could do him wonders and increase his durability. |
Step away from the SQUAT RACK, young man! Jeez.
Even I'll say if he's out more than a quarter of this year, we gotta cut our losses. Alaska |
If he stays hurt, the Saints may cut him ... but the Hornets will offer him a 4-year, $58 million contract!
|
Ingram is on the field just as little. What should happen there? Ivory is a beast. Ivory, to me, is the second best head down rusher in the league, Adrian Peterson being the first...
|
It won't matter the world ends in December!!
|
Every time Ivory gets the ball I hold my breath thinking he is going to smack the sh!t out of someone on the D and score, he is a year older and should by now know what he has to do, I look forward to seeing him this year running over people, good powerbacks are hard to find and I don't want to face him with a chip on his shoulder.
|
He stays until next year. Then the FO can reevaluate him.
|
Ivory is a BLAST to watch!! Unless you missed that game...

running back are a dime a dozen.

A lot of people are angrily writing off Ingram after only one year, and are not seeing him for what he really is here for-- he is being groomed to be the future replacement for PT when PT has to hang up the cleats in about 3-4 years. Those two backs are going to overlap their time on the roster in much the same way that Pierre was introduced in the latter part of Deuce's career, but better so we are not caught short handed.

most of said give ivory a year under an nfl trainer and we will see the difference in his injuries on the field. well that did'nt work. he still fights these hammy's. unless he is not really taking care of his body when no ones looking. i will give him this training camp and a quarter of a season to show everyone he belongs. if its the same ole hammy, then solong chris.
|
And really, I was just wondering if we should keep him if he gets hurt again this year. I was kind of thinking that even as good as I think he can be, maybe we should cut him loose if he can't stay healthy.
