Tailgating w/out car???
I have a question. Might be a dumb question, but I need to ask: I will be in the Superdome against the Redskins. Our hotel is in walking distance. We are planning on taking a cooler with tires, put our beer and food in there and walk to the stadium. Now the question is: can we tailgate without a vehicle? Is that allowed?
I've been to several games before in Tampa and Oakland and tailgated there, but we always had a car with us. Maybe someone here can answer me that question? That'll be WHO DAT :D |
Cars aren't allowed anyway. They have champions square for all that. That is where all the fans congregate and party before the game. You will fit right in. You might want to check on the ice chests though.

I think you can have a cooler. I wouldn't push it inside of Champion Square because they have beer vendors and food vendors there and security/police will enforce. Might need to ask others. Just my thinking. |
hey guys,
thanks a lot for your answers! That helped me already. We arrive in N.O. on Sep 6. Gives me time to also check this out prior. On what side is the Champions Square? In fact, the prizes in the stadiums are very expensive! I have experience from Tampe, San Diego and Oakland and in all three I was happy that I had enough beers before entering the stadium :P I guess we are going to buy a disposable cooler for the beer. Reason being is that we want to walk around the entire place. When the beer is empty we just dump the cooler. The game starts at 1300 hrs, right? How long prior would you suggest to go to the seats? |
You're going to have to make plans for where to store the cooler during the game. You won't be able to take your cooler into champions square. If you insist on taking it I would make plans to keep it in somebody's vehicle during the game.

You definitely want to be there in your seat for the Who Dat chant, after the coin toss, it's awesome. Also, last year there were problems at the gates with getting inside, there were lines outside and incompetent people working the doors, and it sometimes took forever and created logjams. Don't know if they'll have that problem solved this year or not. We usually try and get in the line for a gate between 11:20 and 11:30 and sometimes barely make it to our seats. You can finish your beer in line right up until the moment they search you at the gate. Wouldn't want you to miss anything. Hope this helps. |
Thanks a lot saintsbro! I definitely want to see all that: national anthem, whodat chant, coin toss, warm up...
Guess we will go to our seats around 11, so we are on the safe side. Damn, seems like we have to start drinking right after breakfast...OMG!!! ;) Somewhere over the rainbow! |

;) Leave the cooler in your room, bring plenty of cash to buy drinks from various vendors as you roam around prior to the game, and yes, a non-metallic flask (or two) is a great thing to carry!! |
Not bad at all, you bet!

go to just about any grocery store once you get to NOLA and buy a styrofoam ice chest for about $5 then you can just leave it behind wherever you end up. We will be in our usual pregame spot, outside of Allegros which is in between Loyola and S. Rampart. There is also a Rouses Grocery store that opened up about 2 blocks away from there where you can buy food and drinks if you like. I always bring my cooler and we meet some friends by the S. Rampart side. You're more than welcome to stop by for a beverage, we should be there by 10:00

@RugbySaint: That was the plan, leaving the cooler behind. I need to say that we land in Miami on 22 Aug, after that we stay in Naples, Clearwater and Cedar Key. During that trip we go to some fleamarkets where we hope to find a cheap cooler. If we don't find one on a fleamerket and have to buy one at Walmart, we for sure leave it with a Saints fan. But I guess it will be empty by then. LOL
@x626xBlack: Oh, that'll be a drama! ;) @fhotard: how much is the beer from the vendors? @budsdrinker: You bet that we stop-by! Thanks a lot for the invitation! :D :D |
THANKS GOD!!! Just received the email from nflticketexchange with my SAINTS tickets! Superdome, I am comiiiiiiiing!!! :D

Another option is to get one of those collapsible beer sleeves. It holds six beers and can be slung over your shoulder, or just buy beer from the sidewalk vendors.

@poydras: i might get my tattoo the night before. So not too much time for drinking ;) How much are the beers from the vendors? Somewhere over the rainbow! |

Many of the bars in the French Quarter (and near by) will sell you a drink in a plastic or foam cup so you can take it with you. So we usually just pop in to a bar and get drinks "to go". When empty, do it again. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2 |
Oh yeah, I rember these bars in the French Quarter...... Got bourbon facedon ****street or so...;)
