ESPN reports T. Morstead signs extension.
1 Attachment(s)
ESPN's John Clayton is reporting the Saints have signed Thomas Morstead to a 6-year $21.9mm extension.
The deal makes Morstead the third-highest paid punter in the NFL, behind only Oakland's Shane Lechler and San Francisco's Andy Lee. The contract also reflects Morstead's dual value as both an elite punter as well as one of the league's top kickoff specialists. According to Pro Football Focus, no full-time punter allowed fewer than Morstead's 116 return yards last season. Source: ESPN.com |

I think that he is going to be especially happy to hear that Morstead will be making more on average annually than f.e. Sproles - Sproles $3.5M/yr < Morstead $3.65M/yr. But, overall, this is good news because Morstead was among the few soon to be FAs who was kind of a no-brainer re-signing for next offseason, so it's good that they got it out of the way this early on. While Graham still has 2 years left on his contract, it would be nice to see him sign a long-term contract for 6+ years during this offseason. It would be nice to reward the guy for the job he has done, and keep him happy in the process. |
