New Orleans Saints receiver Marques Clark owes 'dream' opportunity to quarterback Drew Brees

Marques Clark thought his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came last summer. After six years away from football and getting laid off from a couple of jobs, the former Henderson State receiver landed a job as the receivers coach at Westview High School in his hometown of San Diego.

Westview just happened to be the place where some NFL players such as New Orleans Saints quarterbacks Drew Brees, Chase Daniel and Sean Canfield spent their summers doing passing drills.

And sure enough, Brees saw Clark coaching players and asked if he wanted to run some routes.

Unbelievable, right?

Wait 'til you hear the rest of the story.

Great story. If Brees likes him that's all I need to know.

Boutte 07-29-2012 08:16 PM

Maybe he'll look good enough to get picked by some one. For a WR to even make the Saints practice squad is a tall order. I wish him luck.

QBREES9 07-29-2012 10:21 PM

"Every day I wake up like, 'Where am I right now? Am I really here?'" said Clark, who didn't run a 40 or have an NFL tryout after his college career ended in 2006. "Every time I walk in the locker room, I'm smiling, and I don't even know why."

Good Luck Marques ! I'll be pulling for you.

I really could care less about all these cinderella stories and rags to riches crap that a lot of fans love to see. I don't care if a player drove a Mercedes in high school, and had a silver spoon in his mouth the whole way through, I just want the best player on the team. Some people act like they would rather have one of these feel good players on their team than someone who can really contribute.

I dont notice it too much on this board I might add, but I have seen it elsewhere.

...I got drunk and punched my friend last night for no reason. I'm still on his Christmas card list....you're not.

I am all about the underdog story, even though I hated the "Rudy" story. This guy and Brian Banks. I will be following them closely. I hope they make a team somewhere.

We all want the players that are best for our team, but you've got to respect a guy that makes it to the NFL the hard way and never had anything given to him, he always had to earn it

Kurt Warner, Pierre Thomas, Rod smith (broncos) come to mind

SaintsBro 07-30-2012 11:06 AM

Given this team's incredible history of doing well with underdogs, second chances, small colleges, low draft picks, and cast-offs from other teams, you would think that ANY new underdog on the horizon would be welcomed by the fans with open arms.

The BEERMAN only come'eth once.........

(unless someone orders more beer.)
:chug:

We need these local "feel good" stories to remember the Saints are human beings and OUR team, and not run by the NFL's money making deceptive PR machine.

drew could promote a circus of clowns for a half time show, and i'd buy tickets. he is telling scouts what hey missed, priceless.

Rugby Saint II 08-01-2012 11:06 AM

If he makes the practice squad then theres a lttle more money in his pocket. I don't see it happening though.

Why wouldn't you? He is obviously good enough in Drew's eyes and if he did get on the PS, there wouldn't be much worry about someone taking him off of it since he is kinda unknown.
