New Orleans Saints tailback Mark Ingram looking strong, healthy

Mark Ingram had another strong practice for the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, and he’s looking awfully healthy after offseason toe and knee surgeries. At the start of camp last week, Ingram’s participation was being limited every other day. But he practiced fully on both Wednesday and Thursday – both of which were fairly physical sessions in full pads.

Ingram looked especially good on a screen pass in team drills, showing both his speed and power as he gained extra yards after the catch. The team hasn’t done any live tackling, so he can’t be fully evaluated yet. But the second-year pro looks generally strong, fast and healthy, which is a good sign.

“I’m feeling good,” Ingram said. “Just monitoring it, seeing how it reacts every day. I feel good. I feel strong and fast out there. And we’ll just keep an eye on it.”

Ingram had a minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in May after feeling some soreness in the knee. And he had a more significant surgery earlier in the offseason to repair a tendon in his big toe – the injury that ended his rookie season early last year.

He has to excel this season and I hope he does, he is moving up on the expendable chart otherwise.

moving up the expendable chart? he has had ONE YEAR in the NFL...come one. AND he played pretty well, he'll do fine...forget about reggie already...sheesh.

I like this kid ... for all the talk (not here, but in general) about the risk of taking a RB in the first round, Ingram is exactly the type of RB you go after in the first round. He was still on the board when the Lions took Fairley in the 2011 draft, and while I'm sure Nick is going to work out, I desperately wanted Detroit to take Ingram as the solution to their problems in the backfield ... I have high expectations for this guy.

And what people seem to ignore is that he was a very late 1st rounder. Its not like we burned a top 10 pick for him. He was 5 picks from being a 2nd rounder.

I think he'll silence most of his critics this year. I'm sure there will be some that expect him to be Adrian Peterson, but thats a bit unrealistic.

Agreed! We came off of a playoff loss against the Seahawks where our RB's were so banged up that DeShawn Wynn was getting carries lol. It was absolutely the right choice to draft Ingram after that. As to the other point, it is unrealistic to expect Mark to be like Adrian Peterson... His successor Trent Richardson will do that! (Pensacola, FL... I have to represent lol!)

I know, another diamond-in-the-rough RB passed on by Detroit ... do you know they could have drafted Ray Rice ('08) also? ... and I agree, Ingram is ready for a breakout year and by that I mean he's ready to live up to his rep in college ... runs between the tackles, decent hands, great compliment to PT & Sproles, NFL pedigree ... the Saints running game is unstoppable as it is, and then you factor in the O/Line? ... and besides, Ingram looks like he's having fun in training camp ... a happy running back is a productive running back.

I'm glad to hear the positive side of this, and not the down side. We will need all to play a huge part this season.
