Banned Sean Payton quietly slinks out of Canton
The NFL allowed Payton to attend the Hall of Fame dinner Friday night and the induction ceremonies Saturday night.
CANTON, Ohio — Sean Payton walked into the terminal at the Akron-Canton Airport with his son at 9:45 a.m. Sunday to catch a flight out of town about 10 hours before his Saints would walk on the field to play the Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game at Fawcett Stadium.
Under different circumstances, of course, Payton would have been on the sidelines watching as Drew Brees drove the Saints right down the field on their first possession for the first touchdown of the 2012 NFL preseason. But Payton has been suspended for the entire season by Roger Goodell in the BountyGate scandal and is not permitted to attend Saints games.
Payton didn’t have much to say when approached by the Daily News. Asked how he was doing, he said, “I’m doing good.”

Former Saints offensive tackle Willie Roaf was inducted in the Class of 2012, but Roaf never played for Payton. The Saints team sat together for Roaf’s speech — the first of the six on the night — and left when he was done.
