Drew Brees has fine line to walk as Saints' leader
CANTON, Ohio – New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is hearing voices these days. Actually, it's only one voice; Sean Payton is still stuck in his head.
"I hear him every day," Brees said of his suspended head coach. "He's not there, but I hear him." Drew Brees has fine line to walk as Saints' leader - Yahoo! Sports |
The common assumption would be that Brees should take over Payton's role. That assumption is dangerous.
Coaches coach and players play. |
Seems like people forget that that WE DO HAVE JOE VITT AND A TON OF OTHER COACHES. All of these coaches will follow Sean's system so we don't have to worry about consistency problems.
|
Im scared of the time we have to go without Vitt. Not having Payton is bad enough, but not having Vitt is crucial

Carmichael, Kromer and Spags These three guys know what their doing. Plus we have Drew.

I am pretty sure they going to let Carmichael become interim Coach while Vitt is suspended.
Its really only logical. |
To be honest, I think a large part of our whole "diamond in the rough" reputation has as much to do (or more) with coaching than with scouting. I think that the greatest portion of our recent success is the strength of our coaches, not as much the players. Payton gets most of the credit, and he probably deserves it, but from Vitt to Carmicheal to Spags, all the way down to the position coaches, we have strong, independent, intelligent leaders in every position. Payton's loss is unfair and definitely a tragedy for us, but of any team in the league, we are probably the best equipped to lose our coach.

I don't want Kromer to take the lead like some people have suggested. He's doing a great job with the line and I don't want to lose him. My guess is Carmichael will be head coach.
