Who do you think is best suited to take his place at this point? Do you think we will see a huge drop off?

Stick Wilson and Galette on the ends and I think we'll be fine

I think the real problem will be on running downs. Smith is a solid defender against bot the run and the pass. Cameron Jordan can hold his own against a heavy running attack but I am not covinced that goes for Galette or Wilson yet.

Smith has been an above average NFL DE with the Saints and remained relatively healthy throughout his entire career.

Were you thinking of Charles Grant, maybe?

Charles Grant wasn't a terrible DE until his last year here. People need to understand the difference between being a solid player and being a superstar player.

The biggest problem with both has been the size of their contracts. Both solid. Average, inconsistent impact. Certainly not stars.

I think we have some guys that'll do pretty good fillin' his shoes. But we will be better when he comes back. The more talent we have to shuffle in and out the better.

Different year, different coordinator, different scheme... we could be seeing some beautiful things this season.

Exactly, shouldn't be that big of an issue. Especially if the LB's have more of an impact this year.

Jordan manning down one end with Galette/Wilson rotating at the other seems like a good bet. Get both Galette and Wilson in on some passing situations.

It could mean alot to Smith himself, it gives someone 4 games to possibly shine and put him on the pine,I would love his position shored up with a freak DE. We'll see?

I would say Smith is a slightly above average DE. So ultimately, much like with the loss of Vilma, I think it will be exciting to see who gets to start and prove they are worth the hype (Gallete, Wilson).

Edit: We have already seen the pass rushing package Spags will put on the field.

It's not going to matter that much. We've been bringing our projects along and it's time to unleash them.

I think Smith has a lot to prove and knows his job is on the line here. Too bad he has got caught up in Goddell's witchhunt/vendetta. I think the new coach and defense could work well with him. Smith knows he needs to deliver. I am anxious to see if he can do so. If he gets a chance. Smith can be a real good player and if he comes on at the right time that would be sweet. His suspensions have not helped him the next one questionable.
We have seen Gallete could be ready maybe use Broderick more as DE and Smith could become trade material or anything can happen.
