Re: Benson meeting with Goodell...
New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson spent Tuesday morning discussing his team's embattled offseason with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a meeting, according to league sources.
Saints Bounty Scandal An NFL investigation found the New Orleans Saints operated a bounty system rewarding between 22 and 27 players for hard hits and injuring opposing players. Profile » Benson wanted to address the manner in which his team has been treated for its role in an alleged bounty program, at a time when a Louisiana judge is waiting to rule on linebacker Jonathan Vilma's lawsuit against the league, the sources said. What came out of the meeting is uncertain, but it now has wrapped up, one source confirmed. The two sides had been working on planning this meeting for a while, and they attempted to get it done last week, before the two sides' busy schedules interfered. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to confirm the commissioner's meeting with Benson and added that Goodell meets and talks with owners all the time on a wide range of issues.
