This just got a whole lot more interesting. It was fun but kinda sad to see people in this thread throw Steve Gleason under the bus so fast. I was having real problems with that quote, couldn't wrap my head around it, it didn't sound like Gleason. Halo pretty much nailed it. Whatever it was, it wasn't passing the smell test.

So do they fix the subtitle, or just roll with it as-is? I bet they roll with it as-is, because it makes their HBO "story" better. This kind of distorting, half-wrong stuff is going to keep going on for a long time. Especially the talking about bounties, while showing legal hits on Favre. They will never ever stop doing that, I promise you.

Huge Gleason fan and supporter, I almost don't want to watch this now cause I know it will make the blood boil even more cause we all know that HBO won't edit it

Wow, a Saint misquoted? That never happens

As subtitled by HBO, Gleason said: “The real problem was no one seemed shocked. There as no discussion of ‘Wow, did we just hear that?’”

Gleason says in his email that his actual words were, “The group I was with . . . no one seemed shocked.” Obviously, this would dramatically narrow the breadth of the response, exempting Saints players and coaches and other team employees who were in the room.

Though it’s not our desire or role to defend HBO, the network’s characterization seems reasonable in light of the context. Gleason was responding specifically to this: “Was there any discussion afterward when the meeting was over and those players saw you, did anybody say, ‘Wow, that was kind of tough Steve, I’m sorry you had to hear that.’?”

And then after Gleason’s response the question was, “Nobody seemed shocked to hear that come out of the coaches mouth?”

Said Gleason: “No, there was no discussion of, ‘Wow, did we just hear that?”

That said, listening to the words that Gleason uttered without reading the subtitles, it appears that he said, “The group I was with . . . no one seemed shocked.”
WOW, the show comes on tonight. Is this fixable?

ProFootballTalk.com just answered my question:

HBO will change the Gleason subtitles
And HBO will be changing the subtitles to reflect the words Gleason says that he said.

The subtitles on the rough cut claims that Gleason said: “The real problem was no one seemed shocked. There as no discussion of ‘Wow, did we just hear that?’”

Gleason contends that he actually said: “The group I was with . . . no one seemed shocked.” (Listening closely to the words without looking at the subtitles, Gleason’s interpretation seems accurate.)

The move comes, we’re told, after a Monday night discussion between Gleason and producers from the show. As a result, the subtitles will reflect a more narrow view of Gleason’s perceived reaction to Gregg Williams’ cartoonish rant the night before the Saints faced the 49ers in the 2011 postseason.

There are scum bags and then there is the media. Misquoting politicians is understandable considering that they mostly talk out of both sides of their mouths at the same time when not talking out of other orifices altogether.

What kind of person takes advantage of a terminally ill person? I would really love to see one of these sleeze bags ****-canned for just being a POS. Can anyone in the media ever do the right thing just because it's the right thing to do?

Kinda like how when people on this forum threw Shockey under the bus for allegedly ratting out the Saints on the Bounty scandal...and lol, the source was Warren Sapp!
