The New Orleans Saints confirmed that offensive line coach/running game coach Aaron Kromer will take overhead coaching duties during Joe Vitt's six-game suspension to start the regular season. Here is the team's official release:
Metairie, La. - Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis has designated Offensive Line/Running Game Coach Aaron Kromer to replace Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers Joe Vitt during his absence. Kromer, entering his fifth season with the Saints, brings 22 years of coaching experience to the coaching staff, the majority of it developing and tutoring offensive linemen. He has also been responsible for coordinating the rushing attack. He will officially take over the duties on Monday, September 3. Continue reading |

Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
Solid choice. Probably the worst kept secret in weeks.
This lets Pete focus on playcalling, and Spags to run his defense without distraction. |
Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
let the defensive and offensive coaches do their job.
Good news. |
Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
I would have never guessed that. But I will back their choice and my team 100%. Who Dat

Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
Think it was a good choice, but would have rather they had just kept it under wraps until the last moment.
Everyone may have known, but the little bit of unknown was just enough to keep a people guessing |
Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
I thought there was a rule that all Oline coaches had to be old and fat.

Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
No suprise there. I think most of us have known for quite a while that he'd be the choice. Pretty sure Sean even talked about it with all of his coaches and decided this before he started serving his suspension.

Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
I don't know how it will affect his duties as line coach but he deserves the recognition.
He's a good coach. |

This is something I've been thinking a lot about...Payton has a brilliant football mind. He's also got solid brass balls. But another major strength is that he is smart enough to surround himself with more-than-competent assistant coaches that he doesn't have to micro-manage. Losing Dennis Allen hurt our defense, no question. Look at how much better Denver's D was with Allen at the helm (It sure wasn't Timmy T that got them to the post-season), no wonder he got an HC job. If Kromer and Carmichael have already been pursued, this may be what gets them over the top, unfortunately for us. Vitt I'm not so worried about. He's older than the dirt the Saints practice on and if he were gonna get a head-guy job, he'd have it already. |

Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
Good choice, he just has to stick to the mantra, WHAT WOULD SEAN DO?
|
Re: Kromer will replace Vitt during absence...
Would you trade the raiding of assistant coaches for another Lombardi? Of course you would. The vibe I get is that Carmichael and Brees are not planning on going anywhere, so I don't worry about it until I actually read that Carmichael is on some other team's private airplane flying to a second interview.
