The way we hear it, two of the biggest additions to the Saints this offseason likely will never suit up for the team, but their impact will be felt nonetheless. We’re told DL coach John Pease and WR coach Jimmy Robinson are making a big impact on the team with their professionalism and work ethic. Team observers say the fruit of their work already has been seen in how crisp the defensive line and receiving corps have performed during offseason workouts, and the work ethic for both squads has been raised a few notches since the coaches’ arrival. But sources are quick to say that the praise for Pease and Robinson isn’t a criticism of former DL coach Sam Clancy and WR coach Hub Alexander. Rather, it seems that the Saints’ younger players are simply responding better to Pease’s and Robinson’s styles more and the veterans have quickly come to respect Pease and Robinson for the quick results they have produced

I\'ve always thought the addition of Pease was a major improvement for this staff. not just in the D-line play but also for gameplanning. I\'m sure when he makes a suggestion Venturi will listen.

I\'m starting to think Robinson may also be a wise addition.

I\'m sure that will be true...just as I\'m sure that now, when Venturi calls a defense expecting something particular out of his line, he\'ll be more likely to get it.

In the off-season, it\'s sometimes what you don\'t hear that\'s the important thing. Like how we\'re not hearing about some player sleeping with someone\'s wife. Or, someone stealing money out of someones locker. Or a player getting suspended.

There\'s been NONE of that this offseason. So, that\'s good and tells me we\'ve got some high character guys on the team.

Second - John Pease and Jimmy Robinson were brought in for a reason. The reason being the D-line and receivers weren\'t playing up to a level they are capable of. Now, whether it works or not is a different story.

Lastly -- Everything is sounding very encouraging right now, and you can\'t ask for any more than that this time of year :exclam:

Saints head coach Jim Haslett has made discipline and focus a major theme this season, openly challenging players to start living up to their status as first-round picks and ripping into players for just about every small mistake they have made. Yet some sources believe Haslett’s new attitude may wear down his team mentally if he keeps up his ultrahigh intensity during training camp.

New Saints CB Jason Craft, who was acquired from the Jaguars via a trade during the offseason, failed to make an impact in any of the team’s minicamps, and there is growing concern that he won’t be the shutdown corner the Saints were hoping he would be.

In other PFW Whispers, Saints insiders are a bit concerned that 7th round pick Colby Bockwalt might not be Ray Lewis.

No one ever thought Craft was supposed to ba a SHUT-DOWN CB!!!
Not even anyone in the Sunshine club or the Craft family.
Ridiculous. Most of the debate was whether he was going to beat out Ambrose for the 2nd CB or be our nickle.

I\'ve never heard the term \"crisp\" when someone has talked about the Saints, but I\'ve used the term \"crispy\" when referring to their defensive backs after blowing coverage on a wide receiver. :P
