What is that 10 second rule?
I heard them talking about taking 10 seconds off or something like that. Under a minute or under 2 min? I only caught part of it as the people with me were yelling at the refs, but if you guys know what I am talking about let me know.

Re: What is that 10 second rule?
After the 2 minute warning, when there is an offensive penalty while the clock is running, there is an automatic 10 second run off unless the offense wants to use a time out.

Re: What is that 10 second rule?
Several years ago. I think the point was to stop teams from commiting a foul to stop the clock. Something like running a play and seeing the last couple of seconds run off before you can line up and spike the ball, so you have one of your players commit a personal foul to stop the clock. They added a new rule two years ago (thanks to our win over Miami) that also forces a 10 second run off when you lose a review.

Err, umm... if you pick it up and eat it before 10 seconds, it's OK?
(...just kidding). :-D |

Re: What is that 10 second rule?
Yeah, if the ref's nachos or beer fall on the turf they have like ten seconds to lick'em up or a coin toss determines which team gets penalized for messing the up the field. They have to blame someone else as it's certainly not their fault they're so freakin' sloppy.

Re: What is that 10 second rule?
It has been around 6-7 years I think. I was at the Pitt-Atl game awhile ago and it came into play: Pitt driving at end of regulation with 7-8 seconds to go. Wideout flinched, procedure called, on to overtime.
