I voted for the SF playoff game because that wound is still fresh. But Brooks' backwards pass STILL infuriates me to no end ever time someone even mentions Brooks' name. How do you throw the pass backwards?!?!?!??!!! HOW???!!!!?!?? SMH......F@#$ Aaron Brooks'!!

Once Aaron went to Oakland, that was it. Not like Aaron was a great QB, but under McCarthy, he make any QB look good or better than they are. Its why Aaron Rodgers is considered elite, why Matt Flynn cant even start on another team after setting Packer records while Rodgers sit. |

Heres one that isn't on the list and I seriously doubt anyone remembers this, but game 6 of the "ain'ts season" we actually beat the Miami Dolphins on a late TD pass byArchie. A b/s call of offensive pass interference took it off the board and we ended up losing and not winning a game until very late in the season.

The Snake Stable Horror Show. 1984. I was so excited to go watch the Saints in Texas Stadium. We beat the snot out of Dallas on all sides of the field. The Cowboys fans were revolting, because Gary Hollisopplesneikenfelder... stein... burn... von tropp, (Hogeboom) who they thought was their new savior, was getting punked by Bum's defense, as did many offenses. Better yet, 1/3 of the stadium was in those yellow- gold t-shirts we wore back then, because you could be seen better in the stands-- we OWNED Texas Stadium, and the Cowboys fans were visibly peeved. ... but frightened. We're doing just fine with a 21 point lead going into the 4th quarter, when pow! Richard Todd goes down. In come Ken Stabler who promplty threw 2 piks and fumbled in the endzone. We were about to have a huge win in front of a national audience, but no.... super long walk back to the car, jeers in my ears.... super long drive home.... next day was pure depression.

Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
The missed extra point was not an I can't believe it moment for me. In fact as he was lining up for the try I said "He's going to miss it." Good thing everybody was drinking out of plastic cups.
Another one I was stunned by was the the Redskins loss in 06. With us down 10-6 and less than a minute left it was 4th and goal when Drew threw incomplete into the end zone. I was already so used to Brees' magic act that I couldn't believe it when the ball hit the ground. |
I've been here too long so anything that happens on the field wouldn't surprise me. But the worst thing that I couldn't believe had got to be the talk of the Saints moving to San Antonio . Business is business but the timing was unbelievable

Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
Its good to know that there are so many people who felt exactly the same stuff
that I did in our inglorious past. I lived on the State Line for years, and worked in West La, and I thought I was the only Saints fan in Louisiana. So, I could double the length of this thread by asking, "During how many of these moments, did you see it coming?" For my entry, the '84 Cowboys game, you could see it coming like a train. There was no doubt, and there was no stopping it. |
Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
I voted for all of the above

Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
Missed extra point for me. I remember it vividly sadly enough. Jumping up and down with utter disbelief that it actually happened just to be slammed back to earth by a missed xp. Them were the days of just knowing our team would figure out a way to lose.

Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
During them Dick-ka era. Billy Joe Tolliver could have ran out the clock but didn't GB got the ball back & Farve scored with like 10 seconds left. I didn't watch football the rest of the year

Bobby Hebert throwing the ball 40 feet in the air out of bounds in the back of the endzone in our playoff game vs. ATL. Didn't even give our team a chance to make a play. He stunk as a QB.

Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
One of mine is not a game or play but a wasted pick; Chase Lyman. Great player in college but the man had his knees rebuilt with animal parts and I'm not kidding. Never played a down. I understand taking a chance but that's not even a chance. Once that went down I knew things would not get better until the leadership changed. He should have went undrafted.

Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
oh we could talk all day about draft picks... shawn knight.... erxleben...

Mine was last year's game at the 49ers. I was so tired, but was fighting like hell ti watch the game. But in the 4th quarter I fell asleep. Woke up and saw that niner catching the ball in tge end zone. Never woke up before seing such annoying thing... :(

If you're a glutton for punishment, here is the last 3 minutes of the Saints @ 'Niners playoff game (Jan 2012). It shows all three:
1. Alex Smith's bootleg 2. Graham's catch & run for a TD, and 3. Smith's late TD pass to Vernon Davis Painful to watch, but this season will be better! WhoDat! |
Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
I gotta go with the "Lynching". Our defense has great moments but tackling is an Achilles heel and it showed up in the playoffs of all times! Oh the pain!

Re: Your WORST "I Can't Believe It" moment with the Saints...
Ok, I'll add mine.
1980's game, Saints at home against LA Rams (LA then). Saints were thisclose on their way to playoffs. The Dome was at a deafning pitch. Police were around the Dome 's field on horseback to make sure people did not get too crazy. Something happend and the LA Rams scored in the last bit of the game and the Dome was as silent as a morque. To this day, that is all I remember. It was a blur. And here it is which we all chose to forget ... 1983: With an 8-7 record going into the final game of the season at the Superdome against the Los Angeles Rams, the Saints have a chance to finish with their first winning season, while earning a playoff berth. However, Rams kicker Mike Lansford kicked a 42-yard Field Goal with :06 left to defeat the Saints 26-24, and advance to the playoffs. I still like to remember it best as blur. |
