"Nick Toon: Saints place WR Nick Toon on I.R. Nick Toon - WR - NO - Aug. 31 - 9:02 pm et Saints placed WR Nick Toon, RB Joe Banyard, S Jose Gumbs and CB Marquis Johnson on injured reserve, ending their seasons. After an impressive offseason, Toon quickly fell behind Adrian Arrington, Joseph Morgan and Courtney Roby while dealing with a foot injury in training camp. Toon will have a shot at the No. 3 or 4 receiver role next season after red-shirting as a rookie. Aug. 31 - 9:02 pm et." |

Re: New Orleans Saints Final Roster Cuts
When does the new rule for IR start? If I read the article right it
is this year. |
Re: Toon placed on IR
Too bad about Johnson, really liked him over Mack.

At least one of those players will have a chance to make it onto the active roster later in the year!

New Orleans Saints cut-down analysis
Click here for the complete list of New Orleans Saints roster moves.
Most significant move: The Saints have a history in recent years of finding obscure running backs (see Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory). They’ve done it again. Undrafted rookie Travaris Cadet made the roster. So did Thomas, Ivory, Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles. That leaves the Saints very heavy at running back, but that’s not a bad thing. Cadet almost forced the Saints to keep him by having a tremendous preseason. Now, the Saints have the upper-hand on any team looking for a running back. Sproles is likely untouchable and I don’t see the Saints parting with Ingram, who joined them as a first-round pick last year. But Thomas and Ivory have shown they can do a lot of good things and the Saints could add a future draft pick if a team that’s desperate to add a quality runner is willing to make a trade. Onward and upward: One of the best kicking battles in NFL history was won by Garrett Hartley, who spent the summer kicking against veteran John Kasay. Both have kicked in the Super Bowl and both kicked well this summer. I don’t think there really was a clear winner. Kasay and Hartley finished in a dead heat and the Saints made the logical decision. They went with the homegrown guy, who still has four seasons remaining on his contract. As long as Kasay, 42, wants to keep playing he should be able to find another place to kick because he showed no signs of slipping with his preseason performance. What’s next: The linebacker corps still remains a question mark. Starters Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne have been injured and it’s unclear if they’ll be ready for the season opener. The only other linebackers on the roster are Scott Shanle, Jonathan Casillas, Will Herring and newly-acquired Barrett Ruud. I’ve got a strong suspicion the Saints will bring in a linebacker (maybe two) from somewhere else in the next few days. New Orleans Saints cut-down analysis - NFL Nation Blog - ESPN |
Re: New Orleans Saints Final Roster Cuts
Yeah that's what I was thinking... One player on IR can come back that same season as basically the same thing as the PUP list. If that does go into effect this season then Nick Toon absolutely will be the guy they activate.
|
Re: Toon placed on IR
If that new IR rule goes into effect this year which I think it does then Toon and Johnson might be back this year.

Re: Triplett rumor: Walker and AA make the 53
Wait, they kept AA and cut Canfield? Welll, okay I can see that. I still call BS, but not as loudly. I don't see anyone on the cut list that gave me more of a warm and fuzzy than AA. Hope he comes into his own this season.

He's on IR for the year, or until an injury settlement is reached. |
Re: New Orleans Saints Final Roster Cuts
That sucks. I had high hopes for Toon. After seeing Marquis Johnson this preseason I thought he'd make an impact as well. Damn!

Re: Ivory kept!
Until we trade Ivory to the Lions.
|
Re: Ivory kept!
Glad to have them all

Bahhh! A link to spen! I've gotta look closer at these clicks! Not a bad blog all in all though. Spot on with the LB thing. Maybe Ivory for a linebacker instead of a draft choice?

They're not going to cut their 4th round pick. He had a slow start at Wisconsin, only 17 catches his freshmen year after his redshirt season. We'll get to see him again next season. Too much raw talent and genetics to let him slide. |
Re: New Orleans Saints Final Roster Cuts
Wait wait wait a second right their. AA made the team again. Does this guy have pictues of someone with a goat ??? What !
LB Lawrence Wilson got cut, man he was my ticket ! UConn Huskies cannot stick with the Saints. |
Re: New Orleans Saints Final Roster Cuts
Good job stashing Toon on IR. I'm pretty sure he would have been picked up by someone else. Not crazy abou keeping AA.
Tanner is what has me the most surprised. He must not have developed at all. |

Would you guys rather AA or Shanle gone?

Re: New Orleans Saints Final Roster Cuts
If we can get Shanle to eat AA...

You can't walk down the street without tripping over a decent receiver in New Orleans, but the Saints seem to be having a hard time finding an linebacker that can stay on the field. |

Danno, you scared the hell out of me with that initial post, but it would've been crazy for them to let TJ go and keep Walker - TJ showed a much better performance against the Titans than Walker did. It's a shame about Higgins and Broughton, those were two guys I would've liked to see make the team, but the extra WR and RB meant that they had to make some tough cuts elsewhere. Looks like a solid 53! :bng: |
