The Saints held a team dinner on Sunday night at Emeril’s Delmonico in New Orleans and selected their team captains for the 2012 season, just one week before the Saints open the regular season in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome against the Washington Redskins.
Two players were selected from both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball with the fifth captain coming from the special teams unit. Quarterback Drew Brees and tackle Zach Strief were selected as the offensive captains while safeties Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkinswill represent the defensive unit. Wide receiver and special teams ace Courtney Roby will represent the Special Teams unit for the second consecutive year. Continue reading. Saints Elect 2012 Team Captains Offensive Captains - Drew Brees, Zach Strief Defensive Captians - Malcolm Jenkins, Roman Harper Special Teams - Courtny Roby Gotta say, that surprised me. |

Re: Saints 2012 Team Captains
Depends on what you want to do with it Mike.... Sometimes those who deserve it get it. Sometimes there are certain players that have more potential than they are living up to and some "ownership" can bring that out in them....
Don't the players vote on team captains? Must have been a lot that went on in camp. |
Re: Saints 2012 Team Captains
Weren't Smith and Vilma the defensive captains last season?
Maybe the Saints are trying to make a statement by choosing to drop Smith because of the bounty crap, and hope that Goodell will give them back next year's 2nd rounder by doing this concession. |
Re: Saints 2012 Team Captains
Okay. Maybe something we don't see when it comes to the "D"

Heart, determination and work ethic define all of these men.
Very often, Roby stays on the practice field working on his routes, so he doesn't come to take pics or sign autographs. My son and I have managed to get four of our five team captains though. |
Re: Saints 2012 Team Captains
I was a little surprised with the defensive captains. Greer didn't make it.
