So who do you prefer at MLB?
Vilma or Lofton? Lofton showed strong promise before his ankle injury in pre-season. I thought Vilma's play dropped off last yea, and he'll probably be rusty with the layoff. But once he's back to full speed, who would you rather have manning the middle?

Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Lofton. I think Vilma is on the down side of his career. He will still be better than a backup and could play another spot on our team. He could possibly start at MLB for some teams but given his injuries and all I think Lofton is better at this point in their careers. I side we move him to another position within the LB corps and keep Lofton as starter at MLB.

We need to see if Vilma has anything left. That knee is a major concern.

Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Lofton, but I'd like to see Vilma back in a Saints uniform. He can still contribute in certain packages.
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
I have to roll with Lofton at this point. I honestly think Vilma's knees are shot, but still could be a very valuable backup once healthy again.
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Lofton, Vilma has took a step back. Not to say he cant play still, just not were we would want him to be.
But saying this I cant see him being ready to play by week six even if he could. |
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Lofton
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
On run defense Lofton against the pass Vilma. Lifting still has a problem on pass defense just look at the games we played against Atlanta.
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Lofton at the MLB position, but as soon as Vilma is healthy enough to play, maybe week 7 - he should come in and relieve Shanle of his duty.
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Lofton is a better MLB and has looked decent in coverage for us so far.
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
If we have money for both, under the cap, which doesn't seem to be a problem, then why not both.
He doesn't have to play every down, but what matters most to me, is that I definitely want to see Vilma go out in style, in a Saints uniform -- not leave the team on bad terms or feel like he's been put out to pasture like an old horse. The man has a lot of love for him in this city and a future here after football. Doesn't mean we have to automatically keep starting him at LB until he's 45 years old, but he's done enough here that he deserves to go out like a hero and not get thrown under the bus. |
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
yeah play em both start lofton and give him a breather by putting vilma in some on certain packages. at least we wouldnt have to worry about giving a gu a break and having to down grade to do it
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
I am all for Lofton/Vilma/Hawthorne Shanle has not been on a decline the last three years he has flat out not produced.
Vilma has been on the decline statistically the last three years but GW defense seems to have really screwed up a lot of players. If Vilma can come back healthy, let him play out as much of the year as possible with Shanle losing to the wayside. |
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Assuming Vilma's knees are OK...
In our 4-3 Lofton at MLB Vilma at WLB Hawthorne at SLB In nickle packages, Vilma and Hawthorne In dime packages, Vilma |
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Considering Vilma is at best 2 weeks from returning to practice and maybe 5 weeks from being in shape....duh. No brainer.
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Vilma is a perfect fit for the WLB. Lofton will stay at MLB.
I think Vilma returns by week 4 and plays making our LB corp look like: SLB Hawthorne MLB Lofton WLB Vilma |
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
If that's the choice, I'd got with Lofton, just because Vilma looked slow last season but I don't think that'll be the only options. If Vilma heals up, I think we'll see both Lofton and Vilma in the middle and both of them on the weak side at different times. Just to keep d coordinators guessing.
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Just don't forget the fact that Vilma cannot shake a blocker even when healthy. At WLB, at least the blocks will only be coming from one side?

Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Nope, it's gonna be:
SLB Hawthorne/Vilma MLB Lofton and........ wait for it........ WLB Shanle turning down the ProBowl to play in the Superbowl! In Spags I hope! |

Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Loft on all day everyday, can Vilma move to outside LB would be an improvement if he can pick it up, a little different from Playing MLB
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
If the conventional wisdom is that JV is 3-4 wks away from starting?
Injuries may dictate the entire LB corps, week to week. |

Don't worry killa, it was Lofton and your d-coordinator holding you back. Nolan will fix everything. The falcons will roll through the playoffs and win the Superbowl with the d scoring your only 2 POINTS per game. Hell, you might even get 4 POINTS sometimes! |
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
To answer the OP.... Lofton. Ability, Youth, health,...
|
Re: So who do you prefer at MLB?
Lets be honest, the Atlanta Falcon's offense has improved a tremendous amount this year, with the addition of their new offensive coordinator and scheme. They also have an amazing field goal kicker; so maybe next year come playoff time, they'll score 5 points.

Lofton, it's a wait and see with Johnny V, right now.

IMHO I think he's better suited for SLB, but he's still probably just mediocre there too. |
