Is Godells Plan Working?

When the New Orleans Saints disrespected Roger Godhell he took it personally and decided to make the franchise pay. In an unprecedented act of power abuse he went after our coaches, players and our front office.
He has done his best to cripple the organization with the ruthlessness of a Dictator(pronounced Dick taster). His childish vendetta is widely documented now and losing any sense of fair play. He wants to cripple the Saints and have the damage linger for a long time.
Has he succeeded?

Too early to tell. Definitely wounded us though. Anyone else thinking of Johnny U's record and the kommisar having a crush on the old flat top? That would make his main hidden agenda to make certain it's never broken....

I'll let you know when the season's over.

TheOak 09-10-2012 10:12 PM

Nothing has happened this season that hasn't happened in any other season.

I frikken refuse to believe that, that jackazz can effect our season or is capable of executing a master plan!

Draft picks. Fines (million of dollars). Suspensions. Dismantling the coaching and the front office.

All without any evidence for what he claims. No interest in fair play.

I'd say he's done about all he can do. Time will tell if his vendetta was successful, but I for one think taking Sean Payton away from the Saints organization is bigger than most will allow.

Even if we go 0-16, I won't give Roger the credit of ruining our season...

I can't give him credit for having a coherent plan.

Give it time. They have a world of hurt in store for us yet. Wait 'til we start to get close to the Super Bowl, and the refs step in and start calling Drew for false start, because his head was moving during his hard count.

I've always thought the real point of Goodell's ridiculously overly long and heavy-handed suspensions and penalties was actually to try and make the fans and Benson mad at Payton and Loomis, mad enough to want to fire them or run them out of town, for causing all this crap to reign down upon our heads. Why else would you fine Benson, while at the same time going OUT OF YOUR WAY to say he did nothing wrong? Huh, what? Why take away draft picks, and then say you might give them back if the team cleans up their act and improves their behavior? What the hell does that mean exactly? Is there any other interpretation you can read into it besides "fire Payton and Loomis and we'll talk"?

If it happened, getting Payton and Loomis fired (same with Gregg Williams at the Rams) conveniently rids Goodell of his biggest problem children -- and he already got rid of Michael Ornstein, as part of his efforts to try and break up that old school, rogue element within the league. He wants to tamp down on a certain style of person or personality type, that has been with the NFL since it's earliest days. Payton. Bellichick. Jerry Jones. James Harrison. The "Al Davis type."

But for the moment, that plan to get rid of Payton and Loomis seems to have horribly backfired on Goodell and blown up in his face. We'll see.

He probably thinks it's working..........and that is what sucks the most. I want his karma to come back on him and bite his arse. For every evil little smile he smiled I want him wringing his hands and calling for his mommy!

All I want is for him to be a man. Admit he made mistakes and stop hiding behind the CBA, lawyers, and his excessive bodyguards because it's not working. Everyone knows he crossed the line.

He stated once in an interview a while back that he is not perfect. Well nobody is, we all screw up. Acknowledge that there were inconsistencies in the evidence that did not add up when it was all said and done and lessen the suspensions for everyone. If he does that then all is forgiven in my book. Both parties screwed up. Meet in the middle and move on.

The team certainly looked flat and the superdome after about 10 minutes sure seemed flat. I would have to say all the adversity and stress from the whole off-season (not just Goodell) has had an affect. How everyone recovers and how soon, is the real question.

Re: Is Godells Plan Working?

In Goodell's mind it is working.
It is not going to impact the Saints long term.
It might affect the NFL in the short and medium term.

Re: Is Godells Plan Working?

I know it's hard for any Saints fan but picture for just a minute your are Roger and the Saints lie to you. They tell you nothing is going on when in fact there is, a pay for performance system. They are not being honest with the General, and this is not one instance but a couple from my understanding.

Meanwhile, there is an undertow of former players claiming they have been wronged by the NFL regarding head injuries. Roger at this point is infuriated. He dolls out a punishment without much regard for the absolute facts. He believes he has enough facts to send a warning to all teams that it will not be tolerated. His mission, set in place by the owners, is to clean up the NFL and he believes in his mind this is the right course of action.

I honestly believe this is what went down. He was tasked to clean up the NFL of this kind of stuff but he over reacted. It's time to admit he made mistakes, lessen the punishments and move on. Right now the Saints have admitted to their mistakes. He has not. It's time to stop being obtuse and man up. Either show evidence that proves beyond a doubt this is what happened or admit you crossed the line with the punishments. Everyone knows he over reacts from his "red in the face" instances that have been well documented. Admit you make mistakes like everyone else and stop trying to act like you did nothing wrong. You did. Be a man about it.

We won't know if Goodell's plan will work until after the ex-player lawsuits go to court. So far, he's appeased Congress, so good for him.

Yeah.. picture the police asking you if you are stealing cable... you say no. Then they comeback one day when you are watching a movie on HBO and they tell you "AHA! You ARE stealing cable!".

SaintsBro 09-11-2012 05:54 PM

Re: Is Godells Plan Working?

Actually the analogy with Payton should be more like this -- the police come by and warn you not to steal cable. Stealing cable is bad. You stand there in the doorway and go, yeah, okay, right, stealing cable, we'll look into it. You close the door, without letting the cops inside, just the minimum answers you can give, and they leave. Then your tenant in your building steals cable, and the cops come BACK for him and nail YOU, and throw you out of your house, for a whole year, for "lying" and "disrespecting" the cable company, and "not doing enough" to prevent the theft of cable.

Remember, Goodell determined that Payton's suspension was because he "didn't do enough" -- whatever that means -- and they said that Payton "lied" but then they never gave any specific examples of him actually lying, just examples of where Payton either kinda blew them off, ignored them, or told them whatever the pat answer was that they wanted to hear.
