Mickles: Saints hope for no more overreaction
1 Attachment(s)
A little more than 12 hours after their season-opening game against the Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints interim coach Aaron Kromer headed to the office for one of those days coaches love to hate.
After a 40-32 loss to the Redskins in his head coaching debut as a fill-in for suspended coaches Sean Payton and Joe Vitt, Kromer already knew in the pre-dawn hours what kind of day that it was going to be: “Overreaction Monday.” Kromer explained Wednesday the backlash that comes with expectations that aren’t met happens on a weekly basis all around the NFL, not just in New Orleans. Like in the Saints’ surprising loss to the Redskins. Excited fans eager to forget all the talk about the bounty scandal certainly expected more from an offense that set an NFL record last season with 7,474 total yards and a defense that should be improved under Steve Spagnuolo. But they looked anything but that. The Saints struggled on both sides of the ball, uncharacteristically so on offense, and played on their heels most of the afternoon. Hence, the overreaction Kromer referred to. “Half the teams lost and half the teams won,” he said. “Every team that won was crowned a Super Bowl champion and every team that lost wasn’t going to make the playoffs. We know that is far from the truth.” Read more. Mickles: Saints hope for no more overreaction | Saints | The Advocate — Baton Rouge, LA |

Overreaction? I am not so sure. We have to see how the next couple of games play out under interim interim coach Kromer.

Re: Mickles: Saints hope for no more overreaction
This is the hand we are dealt and the team has to react and play well against the Panthers. Also remember the Skins played out of their skulls Sunday and our tract record is not good against them.

Re: Mickles: Saints hope for no more overreaction
There's still some positives to scoring 32 points in a week the team 'struggled' and 'played on it's heels'. Any other team in the NFL has a game like that and they come away with 10pts.

Re: Mickles: Saints hope for no more overreaction
Kromer may have the most intelligent comments to the press of any coach I have seen.

He's right you know.
I can't count the amount of people on here that said the season was over when we lost to the skins. |

I do hope he steps up, we need him to. However, I have been a Saints fan for too long to see us rise to greatness only to go back to accepting mediocrity. That goes for players and coaches alike. |

Not saying I don't think he can be a great coach. I just want to see some fire from him. Our players had that from payton and they need it from someone now. |

I saw crazy calls during that game yet Payton just stood there like a boss. Payton is not a bad coach. On the other side I saw Harbaugh screaming and crying like an idiot at the smallest things. The reality is that just because one coach yells at his teammates more doesn't mean he's a better coach. In fact I've noticed the ones that yell the most are usually the bad coaches(Todd Haley, mike singletary, etc) Harbuagh is different but he's always at everybody BUT his team. Whereas the coaches who stand unfazed on TV seem to do well. Mike Tomlin Bill Belichick Payton(most of the time at least on tv) If Mike Shanahan was the better coach, he wouldn't be in a position to need a QB like RG3. |

“Every team that won was crowned a Super Bowl champion and every team that lost wasn’t going to make the playoffs.
This is the truth. |
