Wide receivers
i know we have alot more problems than receivers but it is still a problem. Ive never really been a morgan fan...he had 2 good games vs scrubs in preseason a year ago and has been stinking it up. I feel like he has alot of drops. With devery out we need someone to pick up the slack. I know this isnt a popular person but i think chad johnson would fit here. he is known for his route running and thats all yo uneed to do in with brees. run a good route and catch the ball. supposedly CJ is too dumb to pick up offenses quickly but he has to be better than Morgan.

Re: Wide receivers
I say bring Tanner up off of the PS and waive Morgan and re-sign him to PS. You can always switch this up later in the season if Tanner doesn't pan out and I really don't think anyone will sign Morgan, he hasn't shown anything yet.

Re: Wide receivers
I get what you are getting at. Our receivers are not looking great. Colston is obviously not healthy. He can barely run for crying out loud. Moore started off decent but dissapeared. I don't know whats going on..are the receivers just not getting enough time to run there route and get open because the O line is not giving Drew enough time?
The regresion of the O line, IMO, is a direct result of Kromer not spending enough time with them. I just cross my fingers that Drew can avoid getting killed until Vitt gets back. |
Colston injuries are a major concern, especially as there is little behind him on the depth chart.
I'm starting to get a little worried that last season was the last shot for this group of players and injuries/age is going to put the team on the downward slope for a couple of years. |
Re: Wide receivers
Well I expected big things from Henry Ellard. We may be seeing some "growing pains" there as this is his first season working with our guys. And then right after he gets here, BOOM Goodell takes Payton out of the mix, so he's kind of coaching the receivers in a vacuum here... I miss Curtis Johnson. I knew it was gonna suck losing him, just didn't think it would be this noticeable. I am hopeful it will improve. We need veteran leadership right now, and Ellard does have that. I'm sure he has seen epidemics of the dropsies plague a receiving corps before, and hopefully knows the cure to turn it around. Hopefully.

Re: Wide receivers
Roby has yet to drop a ball all year has 11 catches 155 yards and averages 14 YPC.
Why is he not being used? He only has 11 catches because he has only been thrown the ball 11 times... He is 100% and I have yet to see him drop a ball. |
Re: Wide receivers
Where is Mike Hass when you need him?

Re: Wide receivers
This is a problem, we have been dropping a lot of balls a s of lately. I think a big problem with this is with Curtis Johnson stepping away. We are dropping a lot more than before. I didn't put much into this, until i started thinking back when Devery seemed to drop everything thrown his way. Then Curtis came into the picture and turned his game around. Now he is gone look at us in two games how many dropped balls we have?

Re: Wide receivers
The fact we lost our receivers coach to Tulane is not helping the situation. What do you think?

Re: Wide receivers
Again, it all comes back to the loss of Payton and Vitt. If the receivers have the dropsies, someone needs to get in the receivers' coach's face and ream them out, tear them a new one, then get in there with the white board and the X's and O's or the extra drills in practice and help them solve it.
Now I will say this -- Vitt is known to be a STICKLER for details. Like Drew, he knows that football is won on the details of execution and the little things. If we can hang in there until he gets back, he will have a lot more chance of getting stuff like this sorted out. But I hope they fix it before then. |

Re: Wide receivers
If SP was here Ocho could be managed but it's like having Owens on your sideline nothing but drama. I like Vitt and looking forward to his return but you have to remember its still not SP.

Would rather give Plex a try than Ocho.

Out of all the old WR that were available in the offseason the only one really worth touching was Moss.
I like Plaxico and don't get why a Miami/Browns didn't touch him for his red zone presence alone, wouldn't be a good fit here though. |

Re: Wide receivers
I know people say we miss Meachem and yes we do. With him and Devery that is UN-matched speed. At this present time we have NO one to stretch the field. With Grubbs in the lineup we can run but not pass due to pressure which I think can be corrected. IMHO T.O. is better than 90% of the current W R's in the game because what we have on the practice squad will not work either
|
Re: Wide receivers
chad johnson > TO. CJ is faster than TO. CJ would strectch the field too. i bet he is at least as fast as devery and definetely quicker. Morgan should be cut immediately. he is garbage. not only his receiving skills lack but also his blocking. if we lose this weekend im calling in mayday

We need to trade for a proven WR next offseason cuz we need the most help on D in the draft |
Re: Wide receivers
If Chad couldn't pick up N.E. playbook, he doesn't have a prayer to pick up ours.
You guy'sreally don't think Plex has anything left? I'd think he would be worth a look if nothing else. |
