Clayton

5. Saints go marching out of the playoffs: All you had to do is watch the New Orleans Saints in the final minutes of their loss to the Green Bay Packers to see why they are 0-4 and positioning themselves for a high draft choice in 2013 instead of making a playoff run. Trailing by one with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter, Garrett Hartley made a 43-yard field goal for the lead, but it was nullified by an offensive holding penalty by Dave Thomas. That pushed Hartley back for a 53-yarder, but an encroachment penalty gave him another chance for a 48-yarder. He missed it.

Face it, the Saints aren't as sharp without their coach, Sean Payton. Their involvement with pay-for-performance and possible bounties has killed their season. Their defense is a sieve. They gave up 319 passing yards to Aaron Rodgers and Rodgers spent a portion of the second half on the sidelines with an injury. They switched to a Steve Spagnoulo scheme in which the Saints can't get to the quarterback. They registered no sacks and had only one hit.

Give Drew Brees credit for trying to rally the team in desperation. He passed for 446 yards and completed 35 passes. There isn't enough time in the 12 remaining games to catch the Falcons, who are 4-0. They are blowing all their tie-breakers in wild card. Effectively, their season is over.

This guy ticks me off, he says Rodgers missed a portion, he missed 1 play. Our season is over. What a @#$$%. This should be in our locker room

Re: Clayton

How are we blowing all our tiebreaker when we played one divisional opponent. Green Bay will win their division so it doesn't matter. KC is in the AFC.

3 NFC loses. They will count against us for a wildcard spot if there is one.

SPIN IT Clayton.

Out defense gave up exactly the same thing against GB last year and we were not Doomed to a first round draft pick.

With reporting like that, Clayton should be expecting a raise from ESPN!

As much as I'd like to say suck it Clayton, it will take some effort and luck to get the wildcard. Not impossible though, long way to go still.

Not many teams get to the play offs on their own accord.... Many make it there requiring "help" the last 3-4 weeks in losses from certain teams.

We aren't making the playoffs y'all.

I mean, I loathe Clayton. I want to punch his face even.

But we're not sniffing the playoffs this year.

Re: Clayton

Soooooo much football left. Way too early to make any predictions. The way I see it, the first three games of the year basically don't even count. The refs made those games (for everyone) a complete farce.

Time will tell.

Re: Clayton

Typical over-dramatic ESPN reporting from the troll himself, Clayton.
  1. 0-4 is a big hole to crawl out of.
  2. We have lost to NFC opponents and the Saints are wayyyy behind the 8 ball.
  3. Playoffs? We haven't won a game!!

Where Clayton is an idiot is - come on man - our defense has been very poor and giving up yards like Halloween candy for 2 years straight!! I see the same defense from a year ago that we, as fans, wanted to see changed.
WHY? Because it allows Alex Smith to run in for a touchdown from like 28 yards out! It allowed the Seahags to run their greatest run in history!!!
OUR CURRENT DEFENSIVE CHEMESTRY ISN'T WORKING. WE CAN'T REBUILD THE UNIT IN 1 YEAR!

Until we can rebuild the defense, our offense has to play nearly flawless so we can win. That's how it was last year, remember?

As for playoffs, let's talk about that after we win a game.

I am sorry to say that it doesn't look good. We will not get HFA and don't do as well in the playoffs with out it. I did like his reference to higher draft picks.
He's a worm but he's right.

Re: Clayton

These people like Clayton are always looking for a chance to jump up and do the little sad trombone "Wah wahhh." It's like an addiction to them.

Here is the thing though. This is the problem I have with what Clayton is doing here.

The Saints are 0-4. There are all kinds of mountains of dismal stats out there to say that teams that are 0-4 never, ever, ever make the playoffs. I can see that. But the problem with those stats is that most of the time, historically, THOSE 0-4 TEAMS SUCK, and are not 13-3 playoff teams from the year before who are missing their head coaches and have skidded on some hard times due to league penalties and sanctions against them. And if any of those 0-4 teams change coaches midway through the year, it's usually a downgrade, someone fired or quitting, not an "up" change of valuable coaches and players coming back as the year goes on.

That is why I am being patient, and in spite of the agony of watching these games, I am not going to count the Saints out, until they are officially counted out by someone from the NFL whose job it is to actually sit down and mathematically count people out of the playoffs.

Re: Clayton

Ok. Atlanta's first three games were against the AFC. They were beaten by Carolina if Sham Newton doesn't blow it. We do not know what they will do against the same teams we have played. We still have many games against teams that will be vying for Wild Card or division specifically:
Atlanta x2
Philly
Ny Giants
San Fran
Dallas.
All I am saying is that none of these teams outscore us if Drew plays consistent and the D improves a little(as they have) each game. I think Atlanta will have trouble with Green Bay and Washington because they cannot beat Gb and Running Qbs give them trouble. Also we lost to Carolina away and they beat them at home. Also Drew usually has two or three off games a year we can only hope those are out of the way. Like Kromer said today the Saints have been known to do the opposite of the norm. It just seemed like we were back to ourselves this week. If it is the case then we can outscore ANYONE. Sometimes you just have to have a little faith. I am not conceding anything until we are mathematically eliminated. WHO DAT

There was a poll on this forum that was how many wins we would get this season, i VOTED 11-5, O.K. WE'RE 0-4, CAN'T AFFORD to lose 1 more or my vote was wrong, I HATE TO BE WRONG!!

Lose this week and we are in deepwater horizon mode. Get the picks, get our coach back, and get Spags what he needs.

Yes you are right. But Atlanta may lose 4 of the next 5. I think Washington will give them trouble. Have a feeling about this game. They play Philly Dallas us Arizona Oakland. I can see them losing a few of these games.
