Not to be that guy but Germans didn't bomb Perl Harbor, that would be Japan.

Get your point though :)

Yes 10 games left, defense is getting better and we could go 10-6 or 9-7 and sneak into the playoffs.

I think the issue with the defense is that its expected to get better. Every report I've ever read said it takes a lot of time to master Spags zone defenses. Combine that with the fact we have DB's who have played man for the last 3 years converting to a zone scheme and it takes time, a lot of it.

But yeah, if this defense doesn't improve? No f'ing way we even sniff the playoffs.

The optimist in me says our defense starts to get it over the next several games.

I'm seeing some hope for the defense. I've seen some extremely good run defense at times and then some terrible run defense. But, it' more good than bad right now. We'll make 4-5 good to great stops and then one will bust loose. We're seeing some improvement in the pass rush too but we need to see marked improvement from Robinson and White and if we want to get our run game untracked, we need to sit Ingram and activate Ivory and in my humble opinion, we're really going to need Ivory in this game against the Broncos. We need to show them a running game they've not seen from us to upset them.

Hypothetical question for the thread that may put it in perspective: "With the Saints, Lions and Raiders at 2-4, who do you have more faith in to finish the season above .500 and/or make the playoffs?".

When the Saints were 0-4 and the Lions were 1-3, I thought about that ... would I rather put my money on an 0-4 Saints team or a 1-3 Lions team ... I went with the 0-4 Saints.

There's just too much talent, leadership and experience on the Saints to ever count them out totally ... the season is over when Drew says it's over, eh?

I haven't even seen the movie and I know that part, especially since it's been posted on the board before.

Re: So is the season still over from some...

Being 2-4 after starting 0-4, and having played the easiest portion of our schedule, I am not saying it is over, but it is touch and go. I take it week to week, game to game. We have the Giants, Broncos, Eagles, and Atlanta twice still. I think we have the 49ers too. I mean that is 6 tough games right there, we have to go 4-2 in those 6 and win every other game we have to make the playoffs. In my opinion anyway. If we can win tonight it is a huge help, but it is hard to win on the road and the Broncos are averaging a little more than 28 points a game. I think we need to score 30+ points to win tonight. We can have 0 mistakes. No turnovers and limit the penalties. Do all that and catch a break or two and we could get a win. Having won two games is just that- having won two games. Nothing more, nothing less. We have still lost 4. Still dropped 2 games to teams who beaten no one but us. We are facing an uphill battle, but we still have a chance. Game to game. 1 at a time. I hope we find a way to win tonight.

It's officially over when we lose that 7th game. We still got two to give. Personally I think two things:

a) we're about to go on a 4-0 run
b) it won't matter

I think this team just isn't very good without our HC. I think that even with all the luck in the world there's no way this defense can keep from losing two more games. So I think this run I'm predicting will keep us all interested for a while, but in the end it will only serve to lessen our draft pick.

Yeah. Pretty much over at this point. Unfortunate,

Since we were screwed so hard by the NFL, losing-out is not out of the question to screw them back. Really, with this defense and coordinator, we don't even have to throw the game!

NFL-licensed purchases down.
Attendance down.
Betting against the Saints - UP

Such a sad day.

Gonna be a long winter.

Still a Saints' fan. Will be.
Yes, this season is over.
Best it can be by winning over some weaker teams is come out 8-8.
It might be 7-9. I hope it does not get worst that .
Sean Payton has left the building and it shows.
No one from coaching staff, players are working, trying, worrying too much.

Re: So is the season still over from some...

Yeah its over now, if we won vs broncos we would have had a shot

i'll still show up and watch the game every week, i'll even start tackling for our team because it looks like our players don't want to

try salvage some pride out of the season, at the end of the day if we win 5 games or if we win 7, we going to get a good draft pick

but a high draft pick will not sort out that thing some people call a "defense"

thats all up to spags now, all the reports said spags is not as shouty in your face as GW was, i'd kill for that now

Atleast GW let them know about it when they ****ed up, we give up big plays and just line up smiling on the next play

Let's get to 4-4 first, then black Atlanta's eye and I'll be sold on playoffs.

Season continues, playoff hopes OVER.

The only chance this team would have is to switch defensive coaches and players with whoever is the #1 ranked D right now, and that might not be enough if we run up against another good D that slows the offense down like last night.

Let's see how well the team responds and take it from there. We can still lose 2 more games (most likely) and make the Wildcard.

Re: So is the season still over from some...

It sure seems that way. Doesn't matter if we win or lose from this point on, if the defense continues to suck and we have no running game, it won't matter if we somehow make the playoffs or not. We'll be like Atlanta, one and done.

Call it a hunch but its a safe guess that they will respond the same way they have all season...

Mike Vick 350 yards passing, no interceptions and McCoy 200 yards rushing.

+1 Like on the mathematics and insanity!

He's not even saying that he thinks it will happen, folks -- just that it CAN still happen.

With the crazy off season we've had, I am gonna continue to wear my fogged-up, no-seeing, no-hearing mother****er Black and Gold glasses until the clown car of this season is officially driven into the ditch and has come to a complete final halt! The wheels have come off, but we are technically still screeching down the concrete on the chassis, shooting sparks, but still moving.

I think even with all the crap I'm still kinda weirdly optimistic -- I think we have a really reasonably good shot at one of those old-school Saints heartbreak years, where it ends up coming down to the wire. Where the Saints in the playoffs depends on the outcome in like six other games, a process drawn out agonizingly over the last two or three weeks, and then the very last one of them all, comes down to a field goal kicker in some other faraway game on the last day of the season shanking an easy PAT in the rain. Remember how we always used to need crazy scenarios like that, to get into the playoffs? It'd be like, if this team beats that team and this other team beats that team, for six different random games to get us in -- and it NEVER worked out for us. Well maybe this time it will all line up, LOL.

Watch the game closer.... Some players are giving up before the play is blown dead.

Re: So is the season still over from some...

If it were just the defense I might still be optimistic. Drew is consistently pressured by avg defenses. Even when they attempt to get the O-line help they still get through.

Re: So is the season still over from some...

Devery makes that catch on the deep ball last night and it would have been a more competitive game. We were running well but had to give it up. We also had a sloooow tempo. Those things can be corrected. The D line has to get a push or we need to blitz more. Luckily we will not be playing Manning the next 9 games.

Maybe a 500 season. Much less then we are accustomed to. I was at the game and it was frustrating. We really need Payton back.

If's but's woulda coulda shoulda blah blah blah. Wake up and take your glasses off. We have the WORST defense in the NFL EVER!! Not just this year.EVER! What in gods name do you think is going to happen to change that?

Talk about me giving up? Really..you haven't been watching Saints football lately. We have players giving up. You don't think they read blogs or watch ESPN? They know what is being said about them. They are human and this crap has got to start waying on them. It should anyway, because anybody with any pride would be dejected.

How long has our D line and LB's been sucking? Why are those position coach's still here? It starts up top. Some heads need to roll and some players need to be kicked to the curb.

This season was over before it began. We just didn't know it yet and some still don't.

For those of you saying the season is over, well look at who we have coming up?

Eagles............What if we win this?
Falcons
@Raiders
49ers
And seriously would we really let our fans down by losing back to back home games two times, especially two big games? Really? And we should beat the raiders who actually suck at home.
@Falcons.........Its a bonus ensuring us a playoff spot
9 days rest compared to 5 against the giants even on the road that helps
Bucs.....We're due for a sweep
@Cowboys......When was the last time they won at home against us?
Panthers
Those last four games are winnable and we could be 10-6 or 9-7. I can't believe some of you want to say season's over. Packers, bears, eagles, and cowboys could all be 9-7 or less and we will have the conference record edge over all of them. And I would rather make the playoffs and lose because I wouldnt want Atlanta to make playoffs four straight years and us just three and when you see their schedule for next year they could go 10-6.

Danno 10-31-2012 09:57 AM

Re: So is the season still over from some...

we're 2-5, when we hit 7 losses I think its officially over.
If we can win 4 of our next 5 we'll be at 6-6. Thats when I'll start believing we have a realistic shot at that 6 seed.

17..... that is a number that is relevant right now.

17 teams in the NFL are less than .500 and have losing records, 8 of those are NFC....

Div champs is gone, there is no way Atlanta drops many, if any of their final 9 games.. Of their final 9 games 1 has a winning record, 1 is .500 and the rest have losing records. Even if we pop Atlanta twice the best we can hope for is a Wild Card.

Yep, we're only 3 games behind the wildcard leaders. It'll take one of our 8-1 runs to make it, and hope the teams above us beat each other up. They all play each other several more times.

I think 10-6 gets us in. 9-7 might but will require some bizarre tie-breakers.

Re: So is the season still over from some...

While I certainly hope for it to be different I still see 3-4 losses unless our defense miraculously improves. Does anyone realistically think we go 7-2 or better on our remaining schedule with the defense we are fielding? I don't see it. I will cheer my heart out but I have to be skeptical about it and try to look beyond the fanatic and view it objectively.

Papa Voodoo 10-31-2012 12:07 PM

The writing is clearly on the wall. We need to win Monday and continue to improve. We likely won't make it but we can still lose and get in so no reason to stop fighting until we get eliminated.

Re: So is the season still over from some...

Is the season over? No way. It's only week 8 of a 17 game schedule.

We're going to turn things around against Philly this week. Drew has had some of his best games on prime time T.V. and if there's any team this defense can get a turn over from, it's the Eagles. When was the last time this offense had two bad games in a row? And then they're gonna spank some falcon butt cause that's what the falcons are for that's what they're best at. And then they'll beat the Raiders cause the Raiders suck.... and so on...
