Drew Brees: The Denver Broncos Game Lit a Fire Within All of Us

1 Attachment(s)
Can you talk about why you dressed as Iron Man to take your son Baylen trick or treating?
“Yes, first of all, I do not pick my Halloween costumes. It’s my son, so Baylen’s old enough now that he can tell me what I’m going to wear for Halloween, so he was going as little Iron Man. I was going to be daddy Iron Man. Unfortunately at the last second, he did not want to put on his Iron Man costume. He decided to go with pajamas instead, so he rolled in pajamas and bare feet with his Koala bear stuffed animal trick or treating until he ate the first or second piece of candy, got on a quick sugar high and then we couldn’t keep up with him.”

How would Sean Payton handle the situation you guys are going through right now?
“Just stick together. I think this is when a lot of teams or maybe less mentally tough individuals would start pointing the finger and starting getting overly frustrated or pessimistic. That’s not our mentality. That’s not the way we’ve been brought up so to speak in this organization with this foundation we’ve built. There’s never a more important time to circle the wagons and rally around each other and make it about each week once at a time. We can’t look at anything else. We can’t look at the rest of our schedule. We can’t look at our division. We can’t look at anything other than how do we win this week? I feel like that’s the approach we’ve taken this entire season. I feel like we’ve gotten better every week with the exception of last week. Last week was extremely disappointing, the result of the game and our overall performance as a team, just did not play up to our standard, certainly with the hype going into that game and we were all hurt by it, but it also lights a fire within all of us that we don’t want that to be the lasting memory that people have of our team. We’re better than that and we need to show them on Monday night.”

Do you try to think about what Sean would do in that situation?
“In my mind and for all the guys that have been around Sean, I think you know the things he would be preaching maybe to you and to the team. Joe Vitt has been around Sean Payton longer than all of us, so he knows Sean and so a lot of the things Joe Vitt is saying now are reminiscent of things Sean has said in the past when we’ve been in tough situations. Maybe it’s not something where we are going to hear this specific story, but we’ve heard some Joe Vitt stories that have been very applicable to our situation.”

I've heard the same thing after every loss

"This game has lit a fire under us"

The fact the NFL tried to dismantle the team should have lit the fire!

If blowing a 24-6 lead to a team that has not had the lead for a second in a single game this year didn't do the trick, then why would getting your collective offensive & defensive a$$es handed to you by a very good Denver team strike the match that lit a fire under you?

It's time to start positioning for the draft...minus our forfeited 2nd...minus the pick we gave up for Barrett Ruud. That leaves us with 5 picks. Great.

Reports are that goodell could be giving that 2nd round pick back to us, unless there's some player we really need, I expect us to pull a St. Louis rams and trade back for more picks

Re: Drew Brees: The Denver Broncos Game Lit a Fire Within All of Us

I remember reading something along the lines of we could have our 2nd round pick back but we would have to give up 2 or 3 later round picks. Maybe someone can help me out with that because I know I read it on this board.

Day late and a lotta dollars short, Drew.
Lost the attitude . You just got out scored by QBs from Washington-Carolina-Kansas City. If that didn't lite the fire, losing to Peyton Manning wont.
Play like your paid to play & we win. No one can keep up. We have a bad defense but the offense is seriously underperforming. Best defense is points on the board.

Actually our problem is the other way around... the best friend of the offense is a defense that can keep points off of the board. The Saints offense is still ranked in the top 5 this season. Our defense on the other hand... historically terrible.

thefifthwall 11-01-2012 09:50 PM

In 2009 we won it all by scoring 100+ points on the 3 best teams. This year we started by scoring 83 against 3 bottom feeders. That one score a game changes a lot. Don't get me wrong the defense is bad but the offense isn't helping any.

For some reason I keep seeing the old Jim Mora "Playoffs" quote

With a reference to "Lit a fire" instead.

With everything that has happened to this team over the last year.

A lousy showing on a national stage is not what I believed would "lit a fire under this team".

Talk is cheap. And we have no Defense to speak of.

Great and it only took them to lose 5 games already to realize it.

$100 million don't burn Drew. And it consumes what little talent there is on the team.

Drew Brees is an exceptional QB. He is seriously a once in a lifetime event. With that said, he is on the down spiral of his career. He will indeed make a little noise and get close again, or do it again, who knows. What we do know is the defense is going to have a major rebuild after this season. The offense is not too far away, it is about 2 years into the future of having to rebuild that unit too.

I guess the point I am trying to make is time is quickly running out on the Saints. Right now is the time. It has been time for the past few years, but it didn't happen. Eventually Brees is going to be a washed up QB just trying to hang on. I just hope for the life of me the Saints don't have to go like 10 years before getting some hope.

Had he shown up to training camp on time instead of squeezing a few more million dollars out of the team we wouldn't need to have fires lit...

That I do blame him for... He didn't exactly play the greatest games week 1-3.

It's the same old song and dance. I've been hearing this since the reds kind loss. "We all need to look at ourselves in the mirror" "we're gonna get better" "we're on the verge of breaking out" and after RGIII and Newton. All I heard was "I'm glad were playing a pocket QB" well I'm tired of all their excuses. Admit u suck and go out there and put on a piss poor performance.

They say that after evry loss this year and still no results. They would have to win every remaining game to prove what they are saying as far as I'm concerned.

Our defense forcing 39 turnovers didn't hurt either
If I remember correctly we had 6 of them returned for TD's

Our offense is scoring early but then going 3 and out in the worst possible times, our defense is pathetic but our offense puts us in bad position late in the game when Carmichael goes conservative with his playcalling

I just wanna know what everyone wants him to say? Should he just say this defense is complete **** everytime some one asks him a question? He doesn't have the answer so his giving the company line like he should instead of being a tool and throwing everyone under a bus...which everyone would chastise him for too. He can't appease anyone either way....

The Denver Broncos game lit a fire within all of us. Coming back from our poor start was a true team effort, and it just makes this second Super Bowl victory all the sweeter! Cannot wait to work with Sean Payton again next year to make even more improvements and to go for number 3. Geaux Saints! Who Dat? Certainly not you Goodell.

That is the most absurd proclamation I have ever heard. Okay maybe not, but damn it is top 10 on this website. He just set the all time passing record in a single season last year, and just passed Unitas for all time in straight games with a td pass.

Outside of a shaky line this year, absolutely no running game, and a defense that many times has us down and in a position where we have to throw, where is the drop off?

dizzle, first up posted. I agree.
That last line, I agree.

The fact that the TPTB -The Powers That Be wanted to dismantle this team....enuff said!!!:bng:
Add that the media is just knocking them. Other teams and fans are making fun of them.

When are they going to catch that fire??!?!??!
This current team and coaching staff are too good for these awful loses.
They need to start acting like they want to win and win like they can.
Here, get fired up!

I agree . What you are saying is just a reality.
I was one hopping Brees just had a two-year contract really good, though, paying him for what he did not get , but earned the first years.
Four -year contract is way too long.

I agree about the rebuliding years. This current team of many coaches, players, brining in new ones too HAD , HAD about another two years shelf life.

Seems, last year was it and now, is the start of downhill and folks after this year, it is really downhill.

Still, always, :bng:
