Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
1 Attachment(s)
NFL.com and NFL Network's Michael Lombardi confirmed Sunday that the league voided Payton's contract extension, which he received in 2011, because of concerns about the language in it. The Saints and the NFL discussed the issue many times, but they never found a resolution.
Payton's contract now is scheduled to end in 2012, but that doesn't mean he'll automatically be a coaching free agent after this season. A source familiar with how the NFL operates in these situations cast doubt to NFL.com and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on if Payton would be a free agent. Lombardi also reported that many people in the league believe Payton's contract will carry over -- or "toll" -- into the 2013 season. When a player is suspended, their contract essentially is pushed back a year. The suspended year doesn't count. It's believed the same logic will apply here -- Payton is suspended for the season over his role in the Saints' bounty scandal -- meaning the coach would be under contract in New Orleans through the 2013 season. Ultimately, that decision is up to Goodell. Lombardi pointed out that Goodell has the unilateral right to rule on coaching contracts. "Our office has made no determination on Sean Payton's contract status with the Saints for next year," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement given to Rapoport. "All contracts between clubs and their employees must be approved by the commissioner, and we do not comment on specific terms of individual contracts. Any comment regarding the matter should come from Coach Payton and the Saints." NFL: Sean Payton's contract status up to commissioner - NFL.com |
Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
Fox just said that Payton doesn't plan on leaving the Saints... but that
he would be the highest paid coach in the league. Take it for what's worth. http://thedingleberry.files.wordpres...th20a20gun.jpg |

Doesn't matter, he isn't leaving and we have bigger fish to fry this season.

Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
He wont leave this city. Benson isn't going to let that happen. He will be our man for years to come. But still I sure a shell don't like hearing this news when I woke up this morning

But losing Sean Payton would be unacceptable in my opinion. |
Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
I sure hope this doesn't happen. Just lots of things to consider.. his kids are in Texas... The Dallas job more than likely will be open next year. Jerry Jones would pay him in a heart beat. I'm hoping something here other than the teams he's built keeps him here.
My only thing is timing too... It couldn't be worse... The Saints aren't doing so well and TBH with the way our boys are playing he's only proving his worth... |
Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
He's top dog here. What he wants, Loomis and company try their best to get.
In Dallas, he'll be forced to accept what Jerry wants done. I just don't see Payton being Jerry's puppet. |
Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
Here is the link to the video....listen to it carefully...
FOX Sports Video - Glazer: What is next for Sean Payton? This was and extension REJECTED by the commish a yr and a half ago because Payton had language in it that pretty much linked his career to Loomis. In other words "If Loomis goes, I go". So this extension has been done for a long time...he always planned on staying but instead the commish got his panties in a bunch over language and rejected the extension leaving it in limbo...and it will be in limbo until he's reinstated. |

This is what will Keep our coach here |
Coaches go somewhere else for three possible reasons.
1. More money 2. Interfering owner 3. They get let go by the team Very few coaches, like players go to a team because its a home town. During the season they have little time for family and being at home is actually more of a distraction than anything. People thought manning would go to Miami.... fact is that hometown just doesn't matter. Money and opportunity do. 1. If we will pay 100mm for Drew.... Sean Payton should never leave for more money. 2. Benson is probably more hands-off than any owner in the NFL. 3. Sean Payton is not getting fired ever. Non issue. |
This is 100% a distraction to get players minds off the Eagles Monday night.

Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
I sure hope so...
I guess good news doesn't sell as well as bad news. Hopefully this is just that. |
Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
I blame Smith and the NFLPA. They were in such a hurry to get back after the lock out that they caved in to everything that Godhell wanted. They gave him unprecedented power more than in all of sports history.........except maybe for Caesar and a few gladiator owners.
The NFLPA wasn't in a position to negotiate after the players came back. They were basically powerless to enforce their opinions and positions. DeMaurice Smith is squarely to blame for not having the cahones to stand up to the power grab by Godhell. |

Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
Has Sean Payton even commented on this at all? Anywheres? This could all be just Bull**** too
|
Search.... Payton was asked in an interview about his thoughts on going to Dallas... His reply "I would rather answer another question about bounties".
I take that has a hell no. |
Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
Yeah I do remember him saying that. So why is all this talk coming out?

This absolutely ruined my day today. And i got laid.

Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
He's coached in Dallas before under Bill Parcels, I'm sure he saw first hand how much of a pain in the a$$ Jerry is. Doubt he'll want to deal with that ego maniac.
|
If Sean Payton had a desire to go to Dallas he wouldn't have signed the extension. Just the news media starting the build up til Payton's return. Could be sooner than expected

Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
I can't agree more with the comments about Jerry Jones. Does anyone believe JJ is going to give up player personnel control of the Cowboys?
Also, think SP would consider going there if Loomis went too. Does anyone believe JJ would hire Loomis? Will Jerry Jones EVER hire another General Manager? NO |
Re: Dont get too worried about Paytons Contract
In my opinion SP has more to gain by staying in NO. He built this legacy here can't imagine a change now.
