The Fact Of The Matter
Is that the defense looked better.
I'll grant you we gave up over 200 yards rushing. I'll grant you we gave up over 400 yards total...again. I'll grant you the Iggles O Line is hot garbage. I'll grant you Vick is not exactly Drew or Tom or Manning (either one). I'll grant you it was a home game. I'll grant you I'm a complete homer with only the occasional nod to reality. Given all those things, I'm still looking at it like this. As bad as the defense has looked, they at least looked aggressive last night...at times. If buy in is part of the problem - if the players haven't seen the success and are questioning the system - and who could blame them really, then maybe last night will help them believe. The fact of the matter is that improvement on defense has to come from somewhere, against somebody. I'll take it. It was either a mirage or something else. And I think a little confidence on the defensive side of the ball might have value. Take it for what it's worth. We could stink up the joint again come Sunday, but last night, at least through my rose colored glasses, looked like an improvement. Hell it can't get any worse. :bng: |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
I've been craving for pressure for a very long time and I got to see it yesterday on primetime football. I'm not fooling myself... I'll take what I can get. A little confidence goes a long ways for the players and the fans. When you get to opposing quarterbacks, good things will eventually happen. Hopefully we can build on this.
Baby steps. |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
The defense played well againts a hot garbage team. I'm not sure how you can take anything posistive away from that. If they start shutting down teams maybe...
Just for me 1 good game vs a horrible teams doesn't make them good or average... |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
LOl Not being an ass intentionally but thats like saying...
Ill grant you the butter was warm Ill grant you the knife was red hot Ill grant you the knife was as sharp as a red hot knife can get (expansion and all) But it still cut through that butter quickly. |

The negative nancys are in full swing today! We get our first dominate win and there is just as much *****in as when we are losing. What you want to see is not going to happen this season. The sooner you get your head wrapped around that, the easier it will be to enjoy when we have a decent performance. |

Its all great and good, but if we pressure like that against Atlanta we will get burned by JJ and Rody all day long. We probably will anyway.
|
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
We played like we should have against Philly. We weren't really as good as we looked last night, but certainly better than we have most of the season.
Its another step forward on a long journey. |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
What a difference a year makes. Reality sinks in but we still have a team that won a Superbowl so I'll take it. You know it may be farfetched but if we beat Atlanta and don't do anything else, Im still a happy camper.

Re: The Fact Of The Matter
Take whatever feel good feeling you want from that game but have you forgetten how bad we looked durining the Denver game? Yes I'm happy we won but our problems didn't magiclly go away
And when did I ever say I considered KC a good team? Jeez its like a crime to be disappointed in these guys... The defense is **** man |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
Read all the comments, some I agreed with , others I didn't. Last night I think we played with the kind of fire and intensity I'm used to seeing out of this team.Defense is still porous but made plays when it needed to. Drew and the offense was sharp. And as far as the Denver debacle goes, I think they turned the corner on us and despite having a slow start are now one of the best teams in the AFC. Also don't forget who is coaching them. John Fox was a serious thorn in our side for many years as coach of the panthers. I think he knows how to play us pretty good.

Re: The Fact Of The Matter
I'll say it. Philly beat themselves. It was great to win a game but we give up that many yards running and total against Atlanta or almost any other team and expect to win is insane(?yeah you have to be with this team). Of course I'll take the win but I'm not gonna crown our Defense just yet.
Positives- More pressure plays from the defense and the offense was finally running balanced plays. Ivory and Ingram look to have a personal battle going on. I say good. Graham and Colston are back in form. Lance still comes up big. Brees was sharp in the pocket other than the lost fumble. |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
TBH the fumble wasn't even really his fault.
Brees is always looking down field to make a play. The guy has faith, confidence in his line. The pocket just collapsed. It happens... |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
Actually, if this team could just tackle they would be a much better defense.

I know the defense is sh!t. Go look at any of my posts, I never once said everything is all good after last night. I am meerly living in the moment and appreciating our team playing a good game, which seems to be escaping some people who can't get past the suckiness of our D. Enjoy the little things because we are stuck with this D for the rest of the year, good or bad. Why be pissy when we suck and when we do good? |

The same goes for all the other 31 defenses in the league... it's the fundamentals that really matter and what everything else is built on. |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
i had been thinking over the last 4 or so games that a bit of mixture of spags new scheme and some of the old pin-your-ears back would maybe get them moving.
i saw that monday night. i think our guys need that initial surge and a nice play to get their confidnece up. after that, they played a HELL of a lot better. not great, but good. you could feel they were jazzed up after getting to the QB. let them ride that...if it gives them confidence, that's a good thing. i think they need to continue that approach. but after they spend 10hrs a day for 3 days hitting the tackling dummies. that was just embarrasing. lynch run anybody? |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
The fact that the Eagles' O-line has 4 of the 5 starters out probably had a lot to do with the fact that the Saints' players were able to create more pressure than they have in the past.
I don't expect that to be the case against the Failclowns' O-line. |
Re: The Fact Of The Matter
Great pressure against a crappy Eagles O-line. If we don't get some of the same pressure on Ryan, White and Jones will eat our DB's for lunch (unfortunately).

Mike I'm sure you're a great guy and I realize we're all cheering for the same team. I don't want to arugue with you but I'm allowed to have my own opinion. I defended this defense up until the denver game. After 9 weeks they should of caught on to something. The facts are they went up against and O line that has 4-5 starters out. They still gave up a ton of yards and had it been any other team we would of lost, Bottom line. The Eagle are horrible in the red zone the defense can't take credit for that. You think we had a great game? Good, I'm happy for you. However reality will set in next week. |

I know our defense sucks. I am not in lala land. I have not defended our defense this entire year. They have sucked since game 1. It was a kick in the sack in the begining but I have come to the conclusion that there is no sense getting my hopes up. Maybe thats why I am happy with the performance. I have zero expectation for games like the last one, so when it happened, it was exciting. I don't go into games thinking, maybe this will be the week we turn it around. No, there will be no turn around. We can only improve a little at a time. Unfortunately, there is not enugh time for this defense to get where we want them to be. |
