Poison pill in Payton’s contract may have been a buffer against LeBlanc

Getty Images Lost in the fact that the contract extension signed by Saints coach Sean Payton was rejected by the league office due to a term that would have invalidated the deal upon the departure of G.M. Mickey Loomis is the question of why that language was in the contract in the first place. A league source tells PFT that Payton wanted to be sure that Loomis would be present to serve as a buffer between the coach and Rita Benson LeBlanc. Officially listed as owner/executive vice president of the team, LeBlanc is expected to have more, not less, power during the term of Payton’s next contract. So Payton prefers not to have to deal with LeBlanc. To ensure that Payton won’t have to, Loomis needs to be there. Maybe, then, if that term can’t be included, Payton really won’t want to stay in New Orleans. Poison pill in Payton’s contract may have been a buffer against LeBlanc | ProFootballTalk |

Again, solid PROOF that Sean Payton WILL NOT be going to Dallas.
Rita is a sweetheart, and although I'm sure she's an aggressive little minx (she has to be - she's part owner) she's NOTHING compared to the overbearing Jerry Jones. |

This actually explains a whole lot.

Hmmmmm, and now Payton's divorced???? I wonder if something happened. If it did, then Payton's now free to get it on with Rita.

Just more favoritism in the NFL
Reportedly, the NFL didn't want to set a precedent by allowing a coaches' job status to be tied to that of another team employee. However, the NFL has allowed at least one similar clause in the past -- when Payton's mentor, Bill Parcells, had an escape clause as an executive with the Miami Dolphins in the event of an ownership change. Re: Poison pill in Payton’s contract may have been a buffer against LeBlanc
For the longest time I gave Rita all the credit for turning the Saints around.(and Payton too of course) I felt like she influenced Benson in all major facets of the company including how he thought about raising revenue. He used to have a used car mentality and would sell off his good players. Then he started opening his check book and bringing in talent. He's about to make Payton the highest paid coach. These days I'm not so sure that she has that much influence..

Being the coach of the team does not preclude sleeping with the boss's daughter. In fact, it means you're a real, real good coach.
