Running game vs 49ers
Must win game for us this week and every week following
Our running game has been on a tear recently, we have rushed for 140+ yards each of the last 3 weeks It will be tough to do vs 49ers, they have a very good D, but it's vital that we don't give up on the running game, if we give up on the running game, the 49ers D line will tear us apart, we have to stay comitted Here's my poll question how do you think our running game does and who will be our leading rusher? I've set it so you can choose more than one option, lets hear you choices |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I would like to see Ingram exhaust that defense and explode for a 100+ yard game. Prob is the 49er defense is stout. This is gonna be a tough game.
|
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I say we throw the whole running game book at'em and just wear them out. 49ers do have a stout D but they need to go down. Despite our lost to them with 5 turnovers we still could have won that game. I know they were saying "we threw everything at them and they still coming" in Bart Scott voice "CAN'T WAIT!! ''

Re: Running game vs 49ers
They were getting run on MN until things got away. We'll be fine.
|
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I went with Ivory... This guy is amazing if given half the chance as everyone else.
However if Sproles is activated.. does this mean Ivory is de-activated? Again? |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
Their run defense has been exposed a few times this year. They can be run on. Ahmad Bradshaw, Steven Jackson and Marshawn Lynch have all run for over 100 yards on them. They have just played some teams with average to below-average RB's. We have a stable of horses that they have to contend with. It won't be the time to get cute. Like BigEasy said, the Saints just need to go right at them and wear them out. Keep it balanced, but give them heavy doses of PT, Ivory, and Ingram. Ball security is going to play a huge factor in this game. If the Saints can win the turnover battle, they can win this game. The running game is going to have to come up huge!

Re: Running game vs 49ers
I think Ivory will break of an 40+ yarder early in the game that will set the tone for us running the ball.
|
Re: Running game vs 49ers
We lost the turn over battle last year and still almost won. However it's easier to blame Greg Williams...
We can win this one!!! |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I went with PT on this one, he has a lot of unfinished buisness with the 49ers. Although a real good dose of Dr. Ivory could give them fits. I personally don't think Ingram will do as well but I hope I'm wrong. We face them with a healthy backfied and I can see us gaining 150 on the ground.

Re: Running game vs 49ers
Checked some stats and found the key to beating the 49ers. We HAVE to get the run game going.
Of the 4 teams the 49ers allowed over 100 rushing, they only won 1 and tied the other. The only one they won was against the Seahawks(136yds rushing). They lost against Vikings(146yds rushing), Giants(149yds rushing) and tied the Rams(159yds rushing). So it seems to me that its imperative to pound the rock and pound it often. Oh and I went with PT cruiser. He wants some payback!! |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
Ivory looked scared and tentative, did not do very well at all against the 49ers defense last year, after Pierre went out... I kinda think Pierre was being used lightly and rested a bit last week, against the Raiders, for the specific purpose of saving him up for THIS game. Pierre is still THE guy that can pick up the entire Saints offense and carry it on his shoulders down the field.
Also, it doesn't take mountains of rushing yards to beat the 49ers; just enough to slow them down and open up the pass. The important thing is to stick with it. The Giants had only like 10 or 15 or 20 yards rushing in the first half, some really pathetic number like that..but they stuck with it and that opened up the pass for them, when they needed it. If the Saints do that giddy, jittery, panicky thing, of giving up on the run completely after the first 12 plays, then the game is gonna be over right there, no question about it. STICK WITH IT! |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
As mentioned earlier, PT23 has some retribution headed SFs way!!!!

Re: Running game vs 49ers
I fully agree that the commitment to the run has to be there even if it does not start out productive. Play action is always our best passing attack positive factor. We've proven many times we are more easily beatable when we become one dimensional.
I look for us to utilize alot of quick plays that always generate positive yards. Little WR and TE screens to mimic help in our run game, pump fake draws to stutter the LBer gap fills. Niners are such a tough defense because they really don't have a weakness. They can pressure with 4, they can cover on all levels and they tackle aggressive and efficiently. It takes individuals to just be their best to beat them. |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I think they might let Pierre T. out of his cage now. He hasn't been getting as many carry's as he used to. Watch him go.
|
Re: Running game vs 49ers
PT, reckoning time.
|
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I'm looking forward to a Chris Ivory / Alton Smith collision about 10 yards downfield. We'll see who is scared and tentative then.

Re: Running game vs 49ers
Last time we played 49ers, Saints and PT ran it down their throats. 49ers #1 defense could not stop PT. Then he got taken out with a concussion at the end of the 1st drive. I think PT is our best RB vs 49ers.

Re: Running game vs 49ers
Lets run over their azzes! http://images.publicradio.org/conten...nkvcar3_33.jpgKnock the snot out of somebody, PT! |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I think its important to have hard bruisers like Ivory and PT pound that front defensive line.
This is where it begins to open up both Pass and Run. I believe the tone is going to be set on the Saints 1st play, the Saints first play should be Pass. Coin Flips is basically what both sides use, offense may think Run, defense of 49ers may think pass, its winning those flips that win the game. |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
Im not sure the tone will be set on the 1st play. Our offense can score 0 points in a quarter or half, and then 28 pts in a quarter.
We just have to wait until they get into rhythm, and then see were we stand. |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
let ivory run at aldon smith til he is no longer a pass rush threat,,,beat him down
|
Re: Running game vs 49ers
The 49ers are very tough to run on. However as some suggested I think you are better off to stay committed to it than you are to give up on it.

But our DL actually has more sacks than SF, on better teams, and SF pass defense on OL is ranked #31? Saints have had a top #5 since 2006, not a top #5 DL just this year. Giants have a better DL than SF, and they only get maybe 1 sack on us. |

2) LOL at him not being elite. He has 15 sacks with 6 games to go. He leads the NFL. He may approach the record. That's pretty damn good. It's highly likely he will break the record for the most sacks in the first 2 years in the NFL. I believe he is 2 away from that now. Very likely he reaches it. All time in first 2 years. 3) He gets plenty of sacks against excellent teams and excellent lines. He's not blockable against anybody. He's just a tremendous player and pass rusher against any team. He's a great athlete, powerful, explosive, and has excellent technique too. |

Pretty laughable to say you aren't impressed by the guy who is setting NFL records in his first 2 years. |

Re: Running game vs 49ers
Smith is good. I'll give you that.......but this is not your fathers Saints. This is a Drew Brees offense.
I still wonder why all these losers come here to troll? You would think that they want to talk to other SF fans. They must come here for intelligent conversation because they sure can't get it at home. :bng: |

Re: Running game vs 49ers
Hey, confused '9er/Charger fan, see Jared Allen, Clay Mathews and boy named Suh.
We render them ineffective. Ivory will flatten the ****** Smith brothers. Take that to the bank of Northern Mexico. Alaska |
Re: Running game vs 49ers
I agree Smith is a good a good player, but hes no Matthews or Ware.
We will run of SF with P.Thomas because their DL is not better than last year, and Ivory is a better RB this year. |
