On second thought...
I was laying this loss at the feet of Brees because of the 2 pick 6s he threw; although the last one off the tipped pass to Colston wasn't really Brees' fault.
After thinking about the game, I am shifting the majority of the blame to the defense. The 40-whiners had the ball with a couple minutes left in the THIRD quarter, and there was between 9-10 minutes left in the FOURTH quarter before the offense got back on the field. **If our defense is so bad, and they are bad, why does it take so long for teams to score against them?** If the defense had either made/let them punt/score earlier, the offense would have had more time. |

Answer:
Because we rushed for less than 125 yards. Period. And made no attempt to rush for more than 61 yards. Period. All else does not matter. Alaska |
Re: On second thought...
I see your point, and I'll raise you a counter-point. Our offense had several possessions. More than enough to be able to dominate the 49ers, and did precious little with them. As I said in another thread, I feel fairly certain we wouldn't have made it to 21 without the early Christmas gift Ted ginn gave us with that fumble... I agree that the defense needed to man up on that 9 minute effing drive and get a stop a lot sooner, but I have no reason to suspect our offense would have risen to the occasion.

Re: On second thought...
Found the following in an article on NFL.com
"Of the Saints' first 12 drives, just three went more than 15 yards. The Saints' second half started with an interception, a touchdown, a three-and-out, then two very short drives that culminated with turnovers on downs." That's mind-blowing |
Re: On second thought...
People need to get if this Brees doesn't make mistakes mentality. The defense played a great game. 14 of those points are Drews fault! Colston having to jump up 4 feet to catch that and almost getting hurt is Drews fault! Last week people are saying it soley Hartly's fault we lost 2 games because he missed 2 field goals but yet noone is ever willing to assign Drew any blame. The hypocrisy around here is unreal!!!

I agree- 2 pick 6's is a killer and momentum back breaker. I love Drew as much as anybody- but the blame lies with him. That pick right before halftime sucked the life out of fans watching on tv- fans watching in the dome- and the whole team.

Re: On second thought...
I'm so tired of discussing how good we are and then having some other team show up to play when we need it most.
I don't even recognize the team who was dressed in Saints uniforms this afternoon. Depressed. Alaska |
Re: On second thought...
Oh hell. I'm not giving up on them yet. Go beat the Falcons and we are back in the thick of things. Sorry fellas. Drew had a crap game. The offensive line was...well...offensive. The defense was ok. I'm not giving up yet and hope the Saints don't either.

Both of those were brees' fault, colston almost broke his neck trying to make that catch and brees hung several of our receivers out to dry all game long The only reason he didnt throw more than two picks is because our Receivers (lance moore and joe morgan) battled for the ball Both pick 6's were dumb throws, if colston catches that pass, it was still a dumb throw, he almost IR'd colston himself |

 Things happen. It take two sides of the team to work. Even after that, Saints could have , should have come back strong. SF did. On to Thursday:bng: |

There saying its okay drew hung colston out to dry because colston normally makes those? drew nearly put colston on IR If colstons job is to go and make those tough catches, then brees' 100M contract should say no dumb mistakes, but he still makes them |

Re: On second thought...
2 INT's = 14 points were killer offensively.
Several third down conversions for big gains were killer defensively. Enough blame to go around, they just didn't get it done. We are at least floating around .500 after a 0-4 start. |
