Playoff Picture - Its quite possible

DIVISION LEADERS
Falcons 10-1
Giants 7-4
Bears 8-3
49ers 8-2-1

WILDCARD LEADERS
Packers 7-4 (I don't think we can surpass them)
Seahawks 6-5 (still have SF and @Chicago)

IN THE HUNT
Bucs 6-5 (we play them at home)
Vikes 6-5 (brutal schedule, may not win another game)

Saints 5-6
Cowboys 5-6 (we play them @ Dallas)
Redskins 5-6

Seahawks and Redskins worry me the most. Redskins still have to play Baltimore and NY, but the rest of their schedule is a cakewalk.

I'd say we have about a 50% shot at making the playoffs.

With the loss to the 49ers at home, I think we have no breathing room. Atl and NY on the road are going to be tough.

Re: Playoff Picture - Its quite possible

The thing about the Giants is that, if they keep and hold onto this "two game" lead they have in their division, then I could kind of see their game against us suddenly becoming one of those games that they don't really "need"...and thus, it might be something where they kind of pull back, take their foot off the gas, or phone it in a little bit...close up the playbook a little...ease up on the film study prep time...try and stay injury free....

We've all seen it happen before...games where it's absolute do or die for one team, it's "their Super Bowl," and the other team doesn't really "need" to win that day, so they just sort of play vanilla and ease up on the gas a little bit...

Who knows, the Giants may go kinda easy on us, LOL. Especially if they think they might face us again, as a wild card, why on earth would they show us everything in their deck, if they don't really need the win against us that day? We'll have to see what happens -- but you know coaches really do think about things like this.

Don't forget, we hand the Giants there asses the last time we played them in the Dome? Now they get us in their house.

Yeah, we always pick them apart, and dismantle them...but I really do worry that the past few years it's "Sean Payton has the Giants number" and not "The Saints have the Giants number." So much of the game plan is him.

It is possible, of course, at least mathematically. Our schedule is not as easy as it it might seem. We can't turn the ball the over as we did against the Whiners and expect anything good.

I'd say we have a 30% chance at playoffs. Schedule is very difficult

According to Football Outsiders, who are pretty accurate on these things, before the loss to the 9ers, we had an 8.6% total shot at the playoffs. Not to be too much of a downer, but my bet is that we are even less of a shot now. Even with 10 wins, we don't win tiebreaks with many teams.

This is freakin pipe dream. Even more so than Atlanta winning a playoff game.

I guess it's truly hopeless then, LOL.

With 10 wins we have a better conference record than Seattle. Those people were probably thinking Seattle will win in Chicago too and beat SF to go 11-5. No way can the redskins and giants both go 10-6. Giants would have to beat us and lose to the redskins for that to happen. Problem with that is redskins are likely splitting or losing both of their home games coming up. And who said it will be a cakewalk in Philadelphia week 16? Eagles didnt not play hard last year when they were already out. And the eagles are certainly capable of going on a late run to 8-8 and if they win in Dallas they can end up 9-7(I don't trust bucs beating a determined Vick or bengals on the road and think panthers lose tonight) and win the division(sweeping giants). If we go 10-6 we're in with Seattle losing 1 more game. NFC East is still the NFC East and too many division games coming up with them.

But they have pretty much everyone except the current wildcard leaders at about the same or worse percentage.

Tampa was at 15%, and if we beat them I'm sure those odds flip towards our favor.

Too early to run all the scenarios and odds. Way too much can happen..

Im sure we can serve the Giants their own ass at their home.

If we had Payton I'd feel pretty good about our chances. Let's face it, our offense is what sets us apart from the pack and Brees is what makes this O tick. But what makes Brees THE best QB is working with Payton. Those two together are like Montana/Walsh. It's like the football gods ordained that these two should team up.

Drew is still good enough to pull it off even without Coach. With a little help. (Run the frikkin ball!) Being down to our 18th string OT isn't helping though.

I see whats being said. But what did we really expect starting 0-4-
A defence thats on tract to be the worst ever. I tell u what we had apretty dam good fight going on and u never no whats in coming thursday. Another 3 game winning streak.would rap up a winning season that was vertually a 2 - 14 bury our heads in the sand season. Paytons damm proud of the boys now. And he should see we need to revamp thedef ends. Via trade or draft.

You win and lose as a team, unfortunately when you are the 100 million dollar man, QB and leader, you take the hit. And quite honestly, he deserved most of the blame on this one. After busting there humps for 29 minutes and 22 seconds to gain momentum and take the lead, you can not throw a pick in that situation. He had tunnel vision on Graham and all 11 defensive players on the niners knew where he was going. Can't make that throw, period.

Yep.

And just 2 more games will make the playoff picture so much more clear.

It's quite possible just not very plausible.

Brees though needs to get used to getting better without Payton because he may not be back. I'm just imagining all the stuff JJ is putting in his head.

I'm only noting this because I'm in the middle of grading terrible papers, but "plausible" = believable, and in describing probabilities, you might wish to use "likely", as whatever probability is assigned to an outcome, its likelihood encompasses the statistical believability in that outcome.

Carry on.

While its certainly plausible, I think its highly unlikely you get laid a lot. :p

Re: Playoff Picture - Its quite possible

Well, it was pretty wildly unfreaking plausible that Brett Favre would heave that crazy ball instead of the Vikings kicking a field goal, in fact it was about as far away from plausible as you can humanly get...so you can say whatever you want about plausible, probable, and likely, talk about your 8.5% chance of this or 15% odds of that... it is football after all, they do have to play these games still. So I'm putting ALL my chips on "possible" for right now, and when the wheel stops spinning, we will find out if the Saints get to move into the big high-roller suite upstairs or if we sleep in the gutter outside. But this year I'm gonna stay at the roulette table until they either turn the lights out or I am removed by security.
