Should we draft Johnny Football ...
... As Brees' eventual replacement? Johnny Football.... Now Johnny Heisman.
They are similar in stature. Give Johnny Heisman a couple more years at A&M... and then a couple of years under Brees' tutelage ... Stranger things have happened. |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
No............

Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Unless we forfeit all our games next season and the kid declares for the draft after his sophomore season, this is a pointless discussion.

Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
He ran for 1200 yards. Fastest way to go from college QB Hero to NFL disaster.
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Absolutely not
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
You ready to ditch Chase Daniel for this kid?

Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
I'd prefer us not to. I would like a taller bigger guy in the next guy playing QB for the Saints.
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
A great qb would be 90% pocket passer 10% runner. There or only a few in a life time. I would put drew at 99% passer 1% runner. Johnny boy has to mature before i would think of drafting him.
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
I would'nt mind if he stayed in school till his senior yr...because thats around the time we might be looking for a protoge' but I doubt it
|
With the rookie cap you better not draft a Heisman unless you are with in two seasons of him Starting.
If not you'll just be prepping him to start for another team on his second but huge contract. |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
I predicted in the 3rd year of brees 5 year contract we'd draft his successor
I'm now predicting it will be sooner Jimmy graham is having a terrible season also |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Pointless thread in my opinion, though the kid is good, he's young and I don't think he fits Coach P's idea of a QB. If Coach leaves then all things are on the table.

Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
The last thing we need is a player who is going to sit on the bench for 2 seasons before starting. Much less for Drew Brees.
The Mark Ingram trade we don't have a player on the field full time. Instead we have a part time player. We cannot afford to do this at this time in Drew Brees's career. What we need is a full time starter and a difference maker. Since we seem to get a lot of our offense players very quickly.. |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Johnny Football isn't eligible to be drafted for another 2 years. This conversation is moot.
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Brees is simply having a bad stretch of games. I still consider him top 5 and I think he explodes next year if Payton returns.
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
so did Tim Tebow. so did Tim Couch. so did Charlie Ward, you see where om going with this.

start trading first round picks now to jockey ourselves in position in two or three years.
fans would be screaming |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Become a run first team to take some pressure off brees, Ingram and PT have shown they can handle it, Ingram has had some good games recently
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
I still say Brees' replacement is in high school right now. Too early for this conversation.

Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Oh, I dont know if any thread is moot or pointless. You have to admit its an interesting thought, or in the words of Pee Wee Hermann, "Made you look."

But no, I dont want a Vince Young/ Cam Newton/ Steve Young running quarterback. RGIII found out yesterday that he's in the NFL. (channeling Jerry Glanville) "You're not at a homecoming, son. You're not playing Vanderbilt. This is the NFL, which stands for "N.ot F.or L.ong," when you run around like you're in college. You'll be selling groceries." I want a great, accurate, smart passer, who doesnt have to have the biggest arm, but an NFL caliber one, doesnt have to be a great runner, just makes smart moves to avoid pressure, and doesnt have to be big at all, just durable, and able to plow ahead, when necessary. He needs to be a leader. A QB's most important tools are: #2, his arm, #1 his mind. |

Tbh, I was all for Chase in 2008 to be something special. But Missouri was just not a good test for him as that school has just not been able to match up with elite competition in Big 12 football. And when you see Gabbert, who basically duplicated what Daniel did the following two years with minimal drop off not to mention he didnt have Maclin to throw to you do have to question if Daniel will be able to fill the shoes. I want Daniel to succeed but idk if he can in New Orleans. |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
No. We don't need a QB.
|
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
What works in college doesn't necessarily work in the Bigs. Ask Tim Tebow...or that guy, White I think was his last name...QB from Oklahoma that won the Heisman but didn't sniff the NFL.
Even if he does succeed for a while by scrambling and standing on his tip-toes to see downfield like Drew...like everybody else said...he won't last for long. He will go get in line at the Dr.'s office with Vick and RGIII, etc. Speaking of Tebow, though...and I don't intend to hi-jack...just reminded me of something I was thinking about the other day... Why does everybody say, "You can't change your offense to suit one guy", when referring to Tebow, but nobody has peeped about the pro version of Southern Cal with their triple option over there in D.C... |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
The folowing two words never mix well for our team.
1.) Heisman 2.) 1st round pick Oil and water come to mind. |

Sam Bradford is still playing in the NFL and is leading the rams to a possible .500 season or one that will match his rookie season. If thats the Oklahoma qb you are talking about. So far, all of the heisman winners still are starting or have a chance to start. Ingram is the latest bust. Tebow isnt a bust, but he's not the elite type qb but he doesnt have to be when he has that jets defense. Seeing how he was able to rack up wins last year I think he can be a qb that wins games. The jets need him to start right now but Rex Ryan has high expectations that passed after two years almost reaching the sb. Cam is still playing and has had a up and down season. Luck will be even better in years to come. Pat White didnt win a heisman and played for West Virginia. |
Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
I have heard that high schools and colleges are perfecting the NFL pass offense today. Idk how long this has been going on but it makes sense with how these rookie qbs are impacting their teams right away. I think the SEC imo if there's a passing qb in that conference that wins game then he's gonna be good in the pros. Matt Stafford is one of them. Any qb that throws for 5,000 yards in a season has to be on the right path. He didnt do well right away he learned the old fashioned way where he had gotten hurt and sat on the bench and watched the plays on the sideline. He is better than Matt Ryan lets just say that. His UGA replacement, Aaron Murray is someone to watch out for. Out of this years's upcoming qb class to me is the best of them.

Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
Our next QB is playing in the NFL right now.

Re: Should we draft Johnny Football ...
