[QUOTE=jeanpierre;487200]Top Ten Saints FA Target List (JeanPierre) [Updated - 03/16/2013]
Listed by NFL Scouting Rankings 01 OT Sebastian Vollmer, NE 02 CB Nnamdi Asomugha, PHI 03 FS Michael Huff, OAK 04 CB Keenan Lewis, PIT:bng: 05 OC Brian De La Puente, NO *RFA:bng: 06 QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, BUF 07 TE Ben Watson, CLE/NE:bng: 08 WR Denario Alexander, SD *RFA 09 TE Will Heller, DET 10 WR Julian Edelman, NE Players in bold indicate signed... :saintsfan: So instead of Michael Hoomanawanui, NE we get Ben Watson, he should have enough in the tank to be a solid backup to Graham and offer some unique options in two TE passing formations... |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
I know many here think Nnamdi Asomugha would be a great addition to the roster; I'm in the minority and would rather find a talent like Lewis young in FA or find talent via the Draft...
Asomugha's attitude in Philadelphia and his age are major red flags for me... I'd rather add someone like Michael Huff, whose made money, but has found that money doesn't translate to a winning team, atmosphere... Having Huff would allow the Saints to move Jenkins to cornerback or have him at Strong Safety and release from Harper's contract... ...stay tuned... |

So, would you then place Jenkins in the nickel and have Robinson or White be the dime? I'm still fully on board with the Asomugha signing, naturally it would have to be around $4M/yr max, but if he would be willing to sign for $3M/yr I think you'd have to be foolish to not want him. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Id rather try and find a way to pick up Volmer on a long term deal or Bryant McKinnie on a shorter deal and get a tackle in this years draft and first round next year.
I think Asomugha would be a decent pick up for the right price but imo its easier to sign a OT in FA then go OLB/CB with the first picks of the draft than sign Asomugha and try and get a OLB/LOT through the draft. There are a few decent looking ROT in rounds 2-4 but few that could plug straight in at LOT. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Ben Watson was not even on my list for a good reason. The pats were right to let him walk he aint all that. like i said in the signing thread one play you love him and the next you will be throwing thing at the tV. IMO he is a media darling.
Maybe just maybe he wants to end his career on a high note but i am not betting on it |

As far as not wanting him, I'd rather commit limited resources (cap space) in a deal like that for Lewis, where we're getting a younger player that we can build around... I do, however, have concerns for Nnamdi Asomugha's age and decline in skills; either way, let's butter the popcorn and see what happens... |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
I'd wait to judge his decline until seeing him play with some motivation. Philly was a plain toxic place to be. And even if he has lost a step, he'd still be able to cover most. As far as a corner of our's getting burnt once in a while? Hell, that's why we have Drew!

Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
2013 New Orleans Saints Defense (Projected)
LDE Cam Jordan, Greg Romeus, Jay Richardson NT Broderick Bunkley, Akiem Hicks RDE Will Smith, Tom Johnson, Tyrunn Walker WLB Jon Vilma, Chris Chamberlain MLB Curtis Lofton, Ramon Humber, Austin Johnson SLB David Hawthorne, Martez Wilson JLB Junior Galette, Braylon Broughton CB Jabari Greer, Keenan Lewis, Corey White, Ryan Steed FS Malcolm Jenkins, Rafael Bush, Jerico Nelson SS Roman Harper, Isa Abdul-Quddus, CB Patrick Robinson, Dion Turner, A.J. Davis Notes: As stated earlier, I believe Lewis is replacing Greer, not Robinson; if Nnamdi signs, as rumored, both Greer and Robinson are probably gone; meaning we can chalk up yet another bust in the first round... Again, there is no way in hell Will Smith plays OLB; can the team really stand pat with him at DE in the 3-4? With a friendlier cap number, is Smith is tradeable to a 4-3 team? Probably won't happen with the Saints rewarding loyalty... Now, can Martez Wilson overtake a Healthy Hawthorne? Have argued that Michael Huff with his talents/skill set and abilities to cover would have a better impact than the Nnamdi signing (could we afford both?!?) Huff is available and should be signed... |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
If we make a move in 2013 carry over is key
2014/2015 FA salary players 1 yr carry over Malcolm Jenkins 2,414,000 - 2014 Will Smith 10,400,000 - 2015 FA - Club option for the 2014 season 2015/2016 FA salary players 2 yr carry over Roman Harper 6,000,000 - 2015 Patrick Robinson 872,500 - 2015 2016/2017 FA salary players 3 yr carry over Jabari Greer 4,200,000 - 2016 spotrac.com - not sure how updated the info is with FA going on Saints have a bail out option on Smith in 2014? hmmmm big year for Smith. I would love to see if that is still in place and what the details are. I see a very deep and crowded backfield for the saints till next year or 2015. The saints hate cap carry over and dead cap money is not smart when you are fighting to stay under the cap for the upcoming years Anyways 2015/2016 is a very big year for saints and resigning players. Not that there are many big names in the groups just a large number of our young core players will be up for their just due according to their agents. next three years will be a fun. I hope Micky can live through it. |
