Positives/Negatives versus Pack
Offense...
The packers blitzed on every play, in a pre-season game, versus an O-line with 3 starters out. Sounds like the Packers were desperate to get a W after being embarrassed last week. OK, our O-line reserves didn't look great, but with 3 starters out I'll cut them some slack. It was frustrating from an evaluation point because due to the blitzes we didn't learn much about our reserve O-linemen and the Packers didn't learn anything about their Defense. It was a cheap win for the pack. Having our 1st team combined with some gameplanning we may have eaten them alive. I think our O-line interior isn't nearly as strong as we were hoping. They were pushed back repeatedly just like last years version. Anyway... WR's- WTF was that? Drop after drop after drop? But Pathon looked great. He beat his man by 5 yards on Boumans interception. What an absolutely horrible pass. Pathon looks to be our best WR to this point. Joe Horn is starting to concern me. Nathan Black came back to earth, but still looks like a player. Cook looks like a solid project, Talman made a nice catch in traffic. Henderson has a freakin jet in his asss. He is destined to be awesome. I'm sure he raised more than a few scouts eyebrows. "Dammm, that boy can F***ing fly!" Boo/Conwell-A little gameplanning and these two would have destroyed those blitzes. RB-Hard to tell anything with the patched-up O-line. But hey were unimpressive to say the least. DEFENSE The D-linemen looked great. We dropped 7 all game, I'm sure in order to evaluate the front four. They held their own against one of the better offensive lines and RB's in the NFC. I think it was our best effort in several games, including last year. Sullivan was being double teamed!!! I'll repeat... Sullivan was being double teamed!!! Remember last time Sully was double teamed? Me neither. We were harrassing Favre and Couch most of the night without blitzing. SWEET!!! Our LB's looked better than they have in several games. Ruff and Hodge made more plays than I have ever seen them make. Hodge was impersonating a hitter and Ruff kinda looked fast I had to re-watch it to see if the swapped jerseys. I saw Colby tweak his ankle, untouched, on a blown contain. He's probably out a practice or two. He definitely needs a year of NFL weight training and conditioning but the boy has heart and instincs. He should be a solid contributor in '05 or '06. Watson again looks like the real thing. He can tackle. Hadn't seen our LB's do that in a while. Ambrose continues to make average WR's look like Marvin Harrison. Craft or Brown will be starting week one. I want to see Montgomery and Harper versus some starters. They both look like the have a shot to make this team, although Monte is more of a longshot. |
