Positives/Negatives versus Pack

Offense...
The packers blitzed on every play, in a pre-season game, versus an O-line with 3 starters out.
Sounds like the Packers were desperate to get a W after being embarrassed last week.

OK, our O-line reserves didn't look great, but with 3 starters out I'll cut them some slack. It was frustrating from an evaluation point because due to the blitzes we didn't learn much about our reserve O-linemen and the Packers didn't learn anything about their Defense. It was a cheap win for the pack. Having our 1st team combined with some gameplanning we may have eaten them alive.
I think our O-line interior isn't nearly as strong as we were hoping. They were pushed back repeatedly just like last years version.

Anyway...
WR's- WTF was that? Drop after drop after drop? But Pathon looked great. He beat his man by 5 yards on Boumans interception. What an absolutely horrible pass. Pathon looks to be our best WR to this point.
Joe Horn is starting to concern me.
Nathan Black came back to earth, but still looks like a player.
Cook looks like a solid project, Talman made a nice catch in traffic.
Henderson has a freakin jet in his asss. He is destined to be awesome. I'm sure he raised more than a few scouts eyebrows. "Dammm, that boy can F***ing fly!"

Boo/Conwell-A little gameplanning and these two would have destroyed those blitzes.

RB-Hard to tell anything with the patched-up O-line. But hey were unimpressive to say the least.

DEFENSE
The D-linemen looked great. We dropped 7 all game, I'm sure in order to evaluate the front four. They held their own against one of the better offensive lines and RB's in the NFC. I think it was our best effort in several games, including last year. Sullivan was being double teamed!!! I'll repeat... Sullivan was being double teamed!!!
Remember last time Sully was double teamed? Me neither.
We were harrassing Favre and Couch most of the night without blitzing. SWEET!!!

Our LB's looked better than they have in several games. Ruff and Hodge made more plays than I have ever seen them make. Hodge was impersonating a hitter and Ruff kinda looked fast I had to re-watch it to see if the swapped jerseys.

I saw Colby tweak his ankle, untouched, on a blown contain. He's probably out a practice or two. He definitely needs a year of NFL weight training and conditioning but the boy has heart and instincs. He should be a solid contributor in '05 or '06.

Watson again looks like the real thing. He can tackle. Hadn't seen our LB's do that in a while.

Ambrose continues to make average WR's look like Marvin Harrison. Craft or Brown will be starting week one. I want to see Montgomery and Harper versus some starters. They both look like the have a shot to make this team, although Monte is more of a longshot.

I agree with just about everything there, Danno.

RB-Hard to tell anything with the patched-up O-line. But hey were unimpressive to say the least.
With all the blitzes, pass protection was bad. Run blocking was better especially while Deuce was still in. I think team finished with less rushing yards than Deuce had which is telling about the drop in talent.

Boo/Conwell-A little gameplanning and these two would have destroyed those blitzes.
Stinchcomb got the blame but it was really Boo that gave up the sack that was nixed by a D holding penalty early in the game. He\'s still got work to do in blocking.

We were harrassing Favre and Couch most of the night without blitzing.
Our front four did a decent job of harassing, but we did blitz some. The problem was none of it was effective. I really think Venturi got jealous of his counterpart coordinator and called a few blitzes. That area needs work.

Watson again looks like the real thing. He can tackle. Hadn\'t seen our LB\'s do that in a while.
He is good but so green it hurts. On the 25 yard run by Ahman Green, watch Watson get trapped inside by downfield blocking of other players and get taken out. Having D linemen getting pushed back 5 yards past the line of scimmage is Watson\'s only defense to his bad read there.

Ambrose continues to make average WR\'s look like Marvin Harrison. Craft or Brown will be starting week one.
Ambrose got burned by Chatman so bad I thought he\'d retire right there on the field. The coice on that play was force him inside where he had help or outside where he\'s on his own. He chose to force the WR outside and was losing a yeard on the WR every step he took. Had T. Jones not been there, that would have been a long TD.

Here\'s a positive for ya. T Jones played a great game as far as tackling goes. I didn\'t see him try to kill anyone and he took some good angles to make sure WRs didn\'t get away. There were a couple times he was the last player or it\'d have been a td and he stopped it cold.

btw, I\'ve only re-watched the 1st half so I can\'t really comment on things that went on in the second half....yet.

I forgot to mention Bouman.

The Int for TD was a pass that was at least 15 yards off target. People have been saying it was an under throw, but doesn\'t it have to be in the vicinity of the WR to be considered an underthrow? It was just plain ugly.

On another play he got forced out of the pocket and threw a pass into the middle of the field that was nearly picked off. The camera was showing a 25 sq yard section of the field where the ball landed and there\'s not a Saint in the picture. Who the heck was he throwing to that was worth risking another Int?

I guess we can say at least he\'s not Tim Couch.

So far this preseason it\'s looking like the defense is improving with every practice.

The offense is what concerns me.They seem to be regressing more and more. From dropped balls to miscommunication, and a ton of injuries, they may be the thorn in our side this year.It wouldn\'t surprise me though with everyone glorifying them because of their talent. They probably keep telling themselves they don\'t need to work hard to be good, because everyone keeps telling them that they\'re great. The coaches should reward WR\'s who catch the damn ball, and there should be consequences for dropping it.If you ask me the offense needs a reality check. They play with no heart what so ever.My challenge to the offense would be to show me that you deserve all of this glorification.when is the last time this offense really took charge of a game? Are defensive coordinators really that scared of our offense?they know that all you have to do is keep Deuce contained,Pressure Brooks,Bump the recievers all game and let them finish your job for you because they don\'t finish plays. With Deuce contained most of the time it\'s three plays and a punt.

I could be wrong but I think Boo job was to just nix the DE so Stinchcomb would have time to drop back and block while he go out in the flat. I was playing close attention to Stinchcomb cuz I was one of the ones who wanted the saints to pick Rashean Mathis instead. I must admit he played a solid game beside that one play, however Bently was piss poor. I hope next game he pick it up more than a notch or the saints will have no other choice but to keep Fontenot

Yeah but I notice t buck still need to work on his tackling. He still looking for punishing WR instead of wrapping up. If he had miss popping the guy out of bounds the guy would\'ve scored. I want to see T buck hit and wrap up.

I think it was obvious GB wanted to win that game badly.
Blitz entire game, nobody does that in pre-season
Favre entire 1st half.

Longwell kicks the FG in 4th quarter? Why Longwell? Are they evaluating him?

Green Bay pulled out all the stops and still barely beat us, IN GB.

I think GB has some problems that this game will not mask.

I also heard on the pre-game they weren\'t too thrilled with Gravy topping the scales at 380 this year. I did catch he and Haz shake hands after the game. Come 4th quarter in 2004 Green Bay may be in some big trouble.

Boo chased KGB all the way to Brooks. If he were supposed to go into the flat, I think he was a little late releasing.

Looks like McKenzie may report soon, so we don\'t have to worry about this discussion anymore or do we:
