Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
Ex-Giants S/LB Chad Jones is expected to work out for the Saints in the near future.
Jones has finally been approved for full speed and contact practices after suffering severe injuries to his ankle and leg in a life-threatening 2010 car accident. Jones was a high school star in New Orleans before playing for LSU in college Chad Jones - New York Giants - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com Remember this guy? He was a stud in school until that horrible injury. What do you guys think? |

Tough football player |

If healthy I'd take him in a heartbeat!

A local boy too? Of course you bring him in,.

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
This is where we shine in finding talent. Go get him Mickey..............I've got a good feeling about him. I hope he's fully recovered.

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
Anyone know how the workout went?

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
I hope he makes it on the roster. We need a good story for a change.

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
I really thought he had a lot of Sean Taylor like ability coming out of LSU. Unfortunate accident but I hope he comes back healthier than ever.

As far as I remember, he did the workout(s) and left shortly after without any big fanfare, so I guess he wasn't what the Saints were looking for. A pity really, since you can't help but to root for a guy with that kind of a story. |
Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
When was the workout? And is there any cover story on it, there has to be I would think?

No word on improvements to that. |
Hopefully if he can't make it back he can get a shot at baseball again.
I know nothing about the game so I don't know if that would be harder to play for him. |
Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
You go all in on this move, what do you have to loose.

Great athlete, horrific injury. It would be an amazing story if he could recover enough to play in the pros. I am not optimistic.

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
Damn streetcar tracks!!
Jones was involved in a single-car crash in New Orleans during the early morning hours of June 25, 2010. He lost control of his Range Rover while trying to get off streetcar tracks and hit a pole.[2] Two of the passengers in his car suffered minor injuries.[3] Jones's most serious injuries were to his left ankle and leg, which include a broken tibia and fibula.[4] |
Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
Also, former Tiger great Chad Jones is reportedly turning his attention to pro baseball. It probably goes without saying that I admire the heck out of Jones' for his tenacity, his perseverance and his amazing recovery. I know I speak for all of you when I say the Tiger Nation couldn’t be prouder of Chad Jones and his Fighting Tiger spirit, and we’ll be pulling for him in this new chapter of his life. While the chapter may be new, its subject is certainly not. Although many of us first think of Chad Jones as a dominating All-SEC football player, he was also a heck of a baseball player at LSU and an elite baseball prospect out of high school. After graduating from Southern Lab, Jones was selected by the Houston Astros in the 13th-round of the MLBD, but turned them down to sign with LSU. As a Tiger, Jones was part of the 2009 National Championship Baseball Team and hit .343 with a home run and six RBI as a junior. He also pitched in nine games, allowing four hits and striking out seven in six and two-thirds innings. (2.70 ERA). Who will ever forget the championship game of the College World Series in 2009, when Jones entered in relief to pitch against Texas? You can relive highlights of that game here, but if you want to jump directly to Jones’s in the sixth, fast-forward to the 6:09 mark. Late last night I saw a tweet stating that Jones worked out for a Rays scout yesterday and threw an 87-89 MPH fastball and a solid curveball.

Unless he has Greg Maddox control and gets the off the plate calls that Maddox got, 87-89 MPH won't cut it in MLB. Wish him luck though. |
Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
Omg I misread this at first, I was thinking Chad Johnson and my reaction was no no no no no no. But now I'm pleased that we are trying out Chad Jones.

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones

He ran a 4.6 40 before the accident and runs a 4.9 now.

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
As a natural safety and before the injury, I feel like he would've been better than both Jenkins and Harper. I believe he would've been like Earl Thomas. Maybe he still can be. I pray we sign him regardless though. He deserves it. That type of perseverance should be rewarded in this world.

Re: Saints expected to work out Chad Jones
D'oh. I like the move. Anyone with some talent & ANY chance of contributing to the team should be brought in
