If he can play, why not?

As long as the effort to develop him does not take away from better options we would have on defense, then why not move forward?

We don't need another sack specialist safety, nor an undersized linebacker he can't play bigger than his size...

Yeah, LBs run 4.9 and better in the pros, but that simply isnt his natural position. Taking on TEs and and jamming WRs is a totally different animal than taking on absolutely hulking OLs that you're built for and pre-programmed to deal with. I think he'd be a long term prospect at best. I honestly hope I'm wrong.

Look at it this way: Ill bet fully half of fully healthy #1 picks don't really pan out, so Id venture to guess that this young man will have a long road ahead.

When? We cant sign him this season without dropping someone from the roster. He hasn't been in a camp since 2010 and he hasn't demonstrated competence to play. The Saints aren't going to make a roster move until February, so I'm somewhat confused by the purpose of speculating about offering a contract.
