It was odd for the NFL to put language in the contract if Loomis was suspended or left that the contract would be voided.

Then turn around and suspend Loomis for this so called Bounty situation, when you really think about it, the Loomis suspension made not a lick of sense in the first place, hes the GM, not a coach or player, hes pretty much in the same ball park as Tom Benson.

Sounds like the NFL and Goodell has some strong intentions in mind for this season.

Hey Drew said he would be back, no worries! This has to be the first Coach in Saints history that is extremely valuable to this team. Look back at the thousands of threads and you don't see a lot of criticism of the Coach.
Just something to be said there. Who Dat!

No reason to doubt the man that had a win-loss record of 37-11 between 2009-2011

Glad he's back, someone said earlier Payton has been quoted as saying "he's taking a fresh approach when he's back" and there's a new sheriff in town

Our players will play with alot more fire due to that

Unfortunately, I'm worried that it's going to be ugly, to see spoiled Saints fans turn on Payton like they turned on Drew after he got his money. Anything less than undefeated and winning every game 99-0 is going to be a disappointment to these people, once Benson starts paying Payton $8 million a year instead of the cheapest salary available. Just watch, the first loss or first hiccup next season, the same "armchair GM" people will be jumping up and down and saying "I told you so! We never should have paid so much to Payton! I wanted to hire Gruden!" or whatever silly thing it is they're going to say. If those fans treat Payton 1/10th the shabby way they've treated Drew, they will be calling for Payton's head after one loss in October, just watch....

Don't think you can really compare the Drew and Sean contract situations.

Drew's money comes out of the salary cap and Sean's does not (only out of Benson's pocket). More for Drew = less at other positions.

Not the case on coaches. If the team were in dire financial condition, then maybe there is a case to be made that we can't afford Sean - but the team has a freaking waiting list a mile long for season tickets and probably has never been more profitable.

I don't agree with this. It takes a lot of bad to make people that angry. I, myself, have been hard on Drew at times this year, but not after one or two losses. After we lost to San Francisco and Atlanta in consecutive weeks, in large part due to his pathetic play in those games, I became very tired of his careless decisions. I wouldn't have been any less frustrated if he were making 1 dollar. But I did say before the season that 100 million is too much for any player in the NFL. It's not like baseball where you have no salary cap. And given Drew's age, there is far from a guarantee that he'll even be good by the end of the contract. If he stays healthy, he should be, but it's a risk. So throwing 19 interceptions, having numerous fumbles and his lowest completion percentage since 2003 isn't going to breed a very positive feeling about the amount of money he's making. To me, that's fair. If you're making that kind of money you better be ready to back it up, or face a lot of criticism. But as a fan, I just want to see him play well, period, and for a large portion of this season he was making awful decisions.

I don't see Sean Payton getting any backlash unless he really screws up horribly. I doubt he will. Plus, what arsaint said is important aswell. Payton not counting against the salary cap takes a lot of fan pressure off of him.

Well, that's when the Payton supporters chime in loud-n-clear with the opposing viewpoint,.

The Saints-train is back on track, I don't think the Payton detractors are going to have much of an opportunity to call for his head anyway.
