Saints come up short against Panthers, 44-38
NEW ORLEANS — Throughout the week, the Saints declared their desire to reach .500 by season’s end as reason enough to play finale with fire.
So much for desire. The Saints allowed 28 unanswered second-half points to Carolina on Sunday and fell for the ninth time in 2012, losing to the Panthers 44-38. The game was everything about New Orleans’ (7-9) season packed into one 60-minute ride. New Orleans trailed early, roared back past the Panthers (7-9) and then petered out, allowing Carolina to take a double digit lead from which the Saints almost dug their way out. In truth, there wasn’t much to play for with no possibility for playoffs for either club. The game amounted to a push for personal achievement more than anything.
