METAIRIE -- On the first day of the New Orleans Saints' minicamp in June, defensive line coach John Pease described rookie defensive end Will Smith as a "ball in high weeds."
When he said it, Pease wasn't being critical. As the words rolled off his tongue and reporters began to chuckle, he flashed the kind of unmistakable grin that NFL coaches get when they know they have something good.
