JOHNATHAN SULLIVAN DOWN TO 315-LBS

Good to hear. Sully has looked good in both games in the preseason. Now that he's down to 315 (his ideal playing weight) I think he's going to start to showing what he can really do. [Edited on 26/8/2004 by GumboBC] |

Great news.
Now he just needs to get in football shape. I hope he\'s learned his lesson and stays in good shape year round now. I knew Pease would whip him into shape. With the emergence of Green it looks like our interior may be just fine. If we only keep 8 D-linemen then we\'re gonna lose some good ones. I say we keep a 9th, since Hodge won\'t count against our 53. Kendrick Allen and Willie Whitehead look to be the odd men out. DE-Howard, Grant, Smith, DT-Young, Sully, Leisle, Green Which two out of these make it? DT-Kendrick Allen DE-Melvin Williams (good camp) DE-Tony Bryant (good camp) DE/DT-Willie Whitehead (I say put Willie on the PUP list and deal with that issue in week 6) |

I\'ve never been a big proponent of big huge run-stuffing DTs. I\'ve always like the DTs who were equally effective at stopping the run AND rushing the passer. It adds an extra element that QB\'s have to worry about. It also opens things up for the DE\'s when they\'re having to worry about a DT busting through the middle of the D-line.
Hopefully Sully will be that kind of impact player. He\'s been written of by some and has most concerned. We\'ll be finding out soon enough. |

One-dimensional run-stuffing DTs can be an important part of the puzzle - if their weight doesn\'t interfere with them performing well in the 4th quarter.
Sully probably realizes now that he could have made it easier on himself if he just reported to camp at 315 and in better shape. :P |
