Would Vitt like it if SP brought in somebody that knows more about LBs than he does?

I don't think Payton cares who he pisses off this off season. I'd love to have singltary. He's a mean physical punch u in the mouth type of guy. And our defense would play that way.

I would also like Singeltary. What I mean thou is that its seems that SP is very loyal to Vitt and I don't think he would like to get any controvesy on the staff.

That would be good because then we could nail everybody who misses a tackle to that cross.

He's the one who instilled the 49'ers physical attitude and built them ... Harbaugh was the genius of the sort , but Singletary definatley built them and did a bang up job

I don't know...
I don't think he's good at inspiring people to play all out for him. I don think they're much better choice although I can't think of anyone atm

Great player does not = great coach

he has already proven he has coaching issues.

As a head coach absalutely he has issues, but as a defensive coordinator he was very good.

Not sold on him either as DC... not sure he was respected as a coach by the players based on how the Whiners have flourished after him.

Read Smashes reply below yours. It's not his ability I question. It's his leadership. Leading the defense requires that or you have a revolt at the end of the year... Que ~ anonymous player saying Spags needed to go.

They've done it mostly on the shoulders of their great defense, and Singletary was key part in drafting many of those players who make up the core of that defensive unit today - exactly what the Saints need at the moment.

And as far as I know, there haven't been any incidents between him and the players or other staff members at Minnesota, in fact pretty much the opposite.

Exactly, it's no coincident that the Vikings defense got much better when he joined the staff.

My point is this defense needs a defensive coordinator who is goona put a foot in some azzes. Not one who is looking to be loved.

Re: How about Mike Singletary?

Vikings #2 in defense...
Minnesota Vikings Team Page at NFL.com
But they sucked against the pass, relatively speaking.
Singletary was not a DC.....just a LB coach ... Minnesota Vikings | Coaches
So, just how much credit he is due remains in question. Maybe the ACTUAL DC, Alan Williams? How does that translate into a viable DC for us?

However Mike is not a Defensive Coordinator for the Vikings.

Re: How about Mike Singletary?

Yeah, I didn't mean that Singletary was the one who deserves credit for the improved defense the Vikes fielded this year, only that he hasn't been a disruptive force within the staff nor has he had any altercations with players. And that comment was made in response to the concerns some voiced at the way things ended between him and the 49ers. Singletary is not the DC for the Vikes, but a "special assistant to the HC" and the LB coach, although I don't know if anyone here really stated that he was their DC to begin with. In any case, he does deserve credit for the way Jasper Brinkley played this season, it being the first season he played as the starting MLB taking over for E. J. Henderson.

And there's no way Williams is going to leave the Vikes to make a lateral move to New Orleans, because he is happy in Minnesota and he works well together with Frazier... AND he has much better player material over there.

I don't think Singletary is a good coach. He had the basic pieces in San Fran and couldn't do anything with them.
He was a great player and could possibly be a position coach. Maybe.
I just wasn't a fan of his coaching style.

He's a lot like Herm Edwards. Too boisterous. When I saw Singletary embarrass Alex Smith on the sidelines I hoped that he would never be involved with the Saints organization.

Hold on there Amigo...

Singletary fired in 2010 Season

2011 NFL Draft
R1 Aldon Smith, DE/LB (Starter)
R2 Colin Kaepernick, QB (Starter)
R3 Chris Culliver, CB (B/U)
R4 Kendall Hunter, RB (3rd Dn Back)
R5 Daniel Kilgore, G (B/U to J Goodwin)
R6 Ronald Johnson, WR (Philly)
R7 Colin Jones, S (Carolina)
R7 Bruce Miller, FB (Starter)
R7 Mike Person, OT (Seattle)
R7 Curtis Holcomb, CB (Wanting)

If anything, you make the case that our personnel dept needs to follow Spags and Flahole on the long walk into the wilderness and...

...great a job Coach Payton has done since he arrived...

No Mike is too unstable and is a fine position coach...

...Now, I wouldn't be opposed to him being our, (wait for it)...

TACKLING COACH
