Payton urges New Orleans to show Roger Goodell hospitality

Payton urges New Orleans to show Roger Goodell hospitality | ProFootballTalk
With the NFL preparing to descend on New Orleans, local residents are preparing to roll out the unwelcome mat for Commissioner Roger Goodell, given his handling of the bounty case.

Saints coach Sean Payton hopes that doesn’t happen.

“I think that would be a shame,” Payton said during Friday’s PFT Live. “Number one, he’s the Commissioner of our league but number two . . . there’s no better place in the world to host events like this, and I mean that. . . .

“I think that all eyes are on you and now the impression is very important,” Payton added. “I think we, as a city, embrace everyone and part of closure for us is moving past it. That’s the same way that the fans and everyone else has to approach it. I think they’ll be very gracious. . . . I think it’s important when all eyes are on you to put your best foot forward and I think we will.”

So far, there’s evidence that not everyone will. Kevin McGill of the Associated Press reviews some of the fairly innocent indignities and insults that the locals are directing to Goodell, but there’s a sense that folks have their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks.

Still, here’s hoping that the vast majority of folks in the Big Easy take Payton’s advice and go easy on the NFL’s Big Kahuna.

We have to remember Sean's still trying to be as good as possible to get our second round pick back. I still wouldn't piss on ol' Rog if he was on fire.

That's right, but under his breath he is hoping that old Roger's chauffeur takes a wrong turn and ends up in one of the unsavory areas of town, (which in Roger's case is just about anywhere). And then abandons him there.

What else can he say? Maybe that'll get our round 2 draft pick back.

Nobody has been more upset over this whole thing than me. While some were ready to move past it, I was not. I'm still not.

BUT

Sean is right. I think some healthy and hearty booing is going to happen - at least I hope it does, but anything beyond that will prove to be a detriment to the city, and we ALL know Roger holds a grudge.

btw, a very high profile former head of officiating for the NFL just ordered three Voodoo Dolls today.

SHHHHHHHHH! His identity is a secret. Speculation is welcome though.
If someone guesses correctly, I will pm them to confirm.

The more people lecture the people of New Orleans to be nice to Der Kommissar, the more I hope they give him hell.

The high road leads to certain failure. Ask John McCain and Mitt Romney.

I hope someone pisses in his gumbo.

dont like godell, would have contributed to the billboard - but (i hate this) taking the long view for the cityis best. NOLA is the greatest city in the world. Hosting superbowls is good for the city - it is why we have done it so often. It brings in lots of money to the city. Being un-classy Saints fans by metaphorically spitting on him does not do the city any favors.

Though if there were ever someone that deserved to get "pied" it is him.

Geaux Saints - but more importantly Geaux New Orleans.

Like SAS says he's trying to get our draft pick back. SP and RG met for over 6 hrs. I am pretty sure the fans of NO came up in that meeting, and part of the deal is he support RG on his trip.
I say that because I noticed in SP's 1st interview he went out of his way to praise the fans, saying we are the best in the world, and he has seen nothing like it.
which means im sure SP knows about the phone calls to RG,lol.

Coach Payton has spoken!
So let it be written, so let it be done.

I will not publicly act in a way that is classless or derogatory if I see Goodell. I will piss in his coffee or wipe his french bread with my ass however.
