Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
“There’s no promise of us being an 11- or 12-win team just because the head coach is back,” Payton said. ”Look, if we don’t get certain things corrected, we could end up being a five-win team. So we’ve got a lot of things we’ve gotta do better.”

Were rebuilding ?

Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
. Anytime you change coaches and schemes you're rebuilding. Fixing this D is going to be tough. Getting the players and learning.the scheme, geling together is a tall order. The silver lining is we can be middling and with our offense stay in the hunt

Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
we win 7 games with 2 different interim coaches and the worst defense we ever had...
I'm thinking with a competent defensive coordinator + Payton and we easily win 10+ games... |
Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
I don't want to put or hear about a particular number.
If we must, 9-7 . I am not being cynical. SP coming back. His team has holes. New DF coach coming on board. Saints will lose some games. Saitns will win some games. The lost games, ok, if there are factors such as both sides working. Good plays. Pitiful loses are frustrating. No excuse for missing ,lets say, blocks, tackles. No man-to-man. |
Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
I dont think Spags was incompetent, I think the talent on D sucks ballz for anything to really work, its really no wonder why Gregg Williams blitzed so much.

Given the cap issues and the personnel fit issues, not to mention the brutal schedule next season, who would want to set ANY level of expectation?
|
Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
And Sean is spot-on. If the D isn't fixed (not to mention some adjustments in actually catching the damned ball), we will be looking at another short season next year.

Yes, we're rebuilding the defence.

Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
I think you're all ****ed in the head. We're probably a few days from a new defense and you want to bail out. Well I'll tell you something. This is no longer an off season. It's a quest. It's a quest for good defense. You're gonna have a good defense, and I'm gonna have a good defense... We're all gonna have such a good defense we're gonna need plastic surgery to remove our goddamn smiles! You'll be whistling 'Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah' out of you're *******s! I must be crazy! I'm on a pilgrimage to get a good defense. Praise Sean Payton! Holy ****!

I'm following your plan coach.
|
I thought about starting a thread 20 times but never did. Especially on the heals of all of the Payton will fix everything replays.
Do NOT misinterpret this reply. However, Sean Payton is still the coach that lost to Seattle in the playoffs in 2010, St. Louis Rams in 2011... No one was cheering him after those games. As I said. Do not misrepresent this reply, I wouldn't have another coach. However, he is not infallible as a Head Coach for the Saints and no miracles will happen. He has been with the Saints for six seasons and is only one season away from having a .500 winning season record. His comment is meant to keep things into perspective. |
Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
You know John Wanye never ever came out and said that he would just destroy the competition . He always downplayed the senereo. Like were going get killed before we cross the indian territory. But then he always came out on top.

6-0 in the NFC South

Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
History gives us edge against jets, bills, cards, and at least either Seattle or St.Louis on the road we should beat. The division games I'm expecting at least 4-2(we got swept by Carolina last year and I believe the every other sweep with falcons continue) Also NE, I'm not sold on Brady able to outduel Brees especially if we get them week 6 or 7. And tbh Miami has given us problems but the game is in NO. Thats at least 10 wins with the games against Dallas, NE and San Francisco pending and I think we beat one or two of them.
If any team wins division other than us, its Carolina as they have axes to grind with TB and are due for a sweep of Atl and if they go to Atl last game of season, they get first meeting at home. They could get the sweep. I look at Atlanta's schedule and they are heading straight for a week 1 match in SF, and likely will have NE, GB, NO first half as well as those are too appealing for second half. Atl could lose all four of those games. I believe SF, us, and GB will be losses and because its at home NE could go either way but no Gonzo and pats having two tightends point to NE winning as it is a weakness of the falcons that many offenses didnt figure out. So I can see Atlanta getting off to a 4-4 start and possibly 3-5 if they go to Car or TB in the first half. It will set in to keep them from 11 wins at least. |

Does Sean Payton look like Rex Ryan to you????
|
Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
Rebuilding implies you had something there to start with. :p
We're building a defense. It would be virtually impossible to be worse than last year. Barring one key injury, I can see 10 wins easily. |

SP does not promise anything ever thats why i like him. let the play on the field do the talking

Re: Sean Payton does not promise 10-12 wins as New Orleans Saints rebuild
Payton hasnt promised 10-12 wins, but Brees has actually went on record promising a bounce back season. And when teams have rebuilded in the past if they had a good offense they made playoffs the first season. Rebuilding isnt years of progress anymore.

Lets get in that underdog mode again, thats when we seem to thrive.

Unless we start having stud drafts and the Special Teams Coach McMahon to get his schiott together, Coach Payton is gonna really have to earn that contract...

The draft will be interesting. All the picks should be on defense.

Payton has always down played our season, and elevated any team we are going to play next. All I know is, we are in a WAY better position than 2005, when he took over, and ended up in the NFCC that year. I like that he down plays things, and respects other teams, but very much doubt SP will ever fail as a coach. |
