Loomis gets a new 5 year contract...
 

Sean Payton isn’t the only member of the Saints with a new five-year contract.

Saints vice chairman Rita Benson LeBlanc told Mike Garafolo of USA Today that the team also secured General Manager Mickey Loomis’ services for the next five years. Both Loomis and Payton are now under contract through the 2017 season, which gives Payton the kind of assurance about stability he was looking for when looking for an out in his since-voided contract in the event Loomis was dispatched.

“To have that kind of stability for the long term, that’s reassuring because that’s always the kind of thing people like to talk about,” Benson LeBlanc said. “Plus, football is a stressful enough business as it is. It’s hard enough to put a competitive team on the field. (Payton and Loomis) shouldn’t have those extra stresses of having to worry about their future and the future of the franchise.”

It was a rough year for the Saints, but things are getting back to normal. And they look to stay that way for quite a while longer with the news about Loomis’ extension.

I agree that he deserves it. If you ask me he's the best GM in the NFL. Calm,cool,collected and always a couple of steps ahead. I hope he retires with the Saints.

Eff you Rodger Goodell. Looks like the Saints are gonna be a pain in your you-know-what for years to come. I love it. Basically, Benson has responded to Goodell and the media's allegations of "arrogance" and "disrespecting the shield" by giving the "guilty" parties a huge effing promotion. Cigars all around!

Does anyone remember the Louis Freeh report? It was never published, Freeh came in to investigate and it looks like it was done for the Saints and Tom Benson internally, to review Bountygate, but I'll tell you this much. If Loomis and Payton were as bad and evil and rogue as Goodell paints them to be, they would NEVER have survived and still be here after all that. And no way in hell they would both be getting raises and extensions. Ha ha.

Announced it right during the peak of the Super Bowl hype fest, too. Winning.

I really like Loomis as a GM. We've had a few problems drafting early in his tenure, and he overhauled the entire scouting department.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't adress the problems we've had drafting defense over the last several years. And for all we know he may have already. You rarely hear about teams replacing/restructuring their scouting departments. 2009, 2010 and 2011 drafts were just bad.
