Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
So as we suspected Coach Payton would wait until the superbowls over to possibly hire one of Baltimore's or San Fran's coaches as our new DC
I expect the DC search to be sped up significantly now Who do you guys think will be hired as both DC and secondary coach? Just a quick note - Think how good Baltimores Secondary played even after losing their no.1 corner for the year (Ladairrius Webb) Baltimore's Secondary Coach Teryl Austin should atleast get some consideration for our vacant secondary coach position My vote goes for Crennel as the DC and teryl austin as our secondary coach |
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
I'm going with Tomsula, but I'd be more than fine with Crennel.

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
I think he is waiting on Jim Tomsula, but I wold be happy with most of those guys.
|
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
is Teryl Austin under contract still or can he accept other secondary coaching jobs?
I have to go with Tomsula just because of the switch to 3-4. |
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
two weeks to prep for a 3 man offense, and the SF coaches got their teams run out of the Dome.
Yikes. Let's hire the nerd from the GoDaddy commercial. At least he scored. |

I rather have Romeo myself.
its not like the 49ers defense is stopping anyone anyway. They never have, they were more so fortunate of turnovers, when that rarely happens, they lose. |
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
I was more impressed with the SF defensive line than I was with the Baltimore defensive backfield. So I would rate Tomsula over Austin. Mangina can stay at ESPN. Not excited about a guy with little pro experience. Would rather see Mason brought in under another DC first to see what he has. Not real familiar with Perry -just don't watch Cheese heads or Cow pies games. My first choice would be Crennel as DC and Ed Reed being picked up as player/DB coach. At times he was the only one one out on in the DB that seemed to know what he and everyone else should be doing. Was Pollard focusing too hard on his next interview or what?

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Honestly, I would like to get Derek Mason from Stanford. He coaches in a league that knows nothing but offense, and has been able to shut most of those teams down with consistency. Stanford Offense was nothing to get excited about after Andrew Luck left, but their defense kept them relevant. And he has been able to accomplish this with far less than SEC caliber talent, from what I can see.
But with all that said, I think he'll be looking for a head coaching gig, and he'll probably get it very soon, most likely at the college level. Don't expect Sean to go after him, for that very reason. I'm not particularly tickled by any of the other names that have been mentioned. |
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Romeo to install it, then bring in some young hot-shot a few years down the road.

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Whomever it is, I just want them to be hired hurriedly... I'm tired of all the speculation and suspense

We had Ron Zooks in one time as DC and he did well, then went to be HC at College level. |
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
I'd like to see the stats on Crennel's defense when he was a DC. Not going to consider anything that happened under his time as head coach.
Payton will probably have control over the D though, so that may be appealing to him. |
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
You forgot one. Ed Donateli (sp?)

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
I wish it would be Crennell but my money is on Rob Ryan.

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Tomsula is my guess.

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Ed Donatell SF defensive backs coach
|
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Teryl Austin, Ravens Secondary Coach, is a Payton guy; he takes what he has and makes it work...

Oh My God Rob Ryan ? What he ever done ? Someone please tell me.

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Lovie Smith?
|
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
I think Lovie is taking the year off... probably do the broadcast booth thing. When he comes back, it'll be a HC gig.

Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
k just threw that out there heh. I havent been watching sports shows for a while
|
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
I would vote in this if there was an "Anyone but Rob Ryan" selection.
|
Re: Super Bowls over - Who does SP hire as DC
Looks like it's not Rob Ryan. Sean said on Mike and Mike that it was Ryan's second interview today. Seems if he was the guy it would have leaked already.

I'm picking Crennel as DC and Mangini as secondary coach. The hiring of Rob Ryan is old news but I'm still hoping it's a bad dream.
