The backup QB carousel about to turn

Atlanta’s Luke McCown, Carolina’s Derek Anderson and New Orleans’ Chase Daniel all can become unrestricted free agents. I’d say the chances Anderson moves on are very high.

I think the Saints would like to keep Daniel as Drew Brees’ backup. The chances of that happening are pretty good. But the Saints don’t have the cap room to pay Daniel much. I think there’s at least a chance that another team could make an attempt to get a guy that has been the understudy to one of the league’s top quarterbacks. I don’t think there are teams out there that view Daniel as a potential starter. But I think there are teams that have more cap room than the Saints and they might be willing to pay Daniel good backup money.

Chase Daniel's value is greater to us than anyone else. I think he stays.

I could take Chase or leave him. He has done nothing to show me he is a capable starter in this league. This theory that he will automatically be good because he has sat behind Brees is garbage. Yea it worked for Rodgers, but Rodgers was a better QB coming into the NFL and was first round talent. Chase is going to be too old himself to take over when Brees finally hangs them up. If Brees goes down we are screwed anyway no matter who is backing him up, so we might as well just put any warm body back there and draft a QB in a year or two. Im sure as hell not wanting to give Chase a raise, or even market value in a contract when we can probably pick up another backup that is just as serviceable cheaper.

Why not have you or I "holding the clipboard" then.

Bad day Dude?

I thought that "The Dude Abides."

McClown's name coming up again? Really? Is Chase worse than Anderson? Really? With what's out there, the only way we could change him out would be by wasting a draft pick.

I'm sure your set of data is complete for this assessment. Having the opportunity to throw 9 passes in 3 years and taking about 30 non v-formation snaps is usually the maximum for evaluative purposes. Frankly, he should have been cut two years ago.

With all the teams needing a QB such KC, Arizona, Buffalo, Jets and Eagles I can see someone else signing Chase to compete for starting job. Someone will pay him 2 million which is more than what we pay him now.

Lets come to terms with a few things. Some of which will be decided in the next few months.

1. Is Chase ready to start and complete a full season if Drew goes down? I do not think so but Chase may be at starter level for another team..

2. Is Chase going to be the man to fill the Starting spot for the New Orleans Saints when Drew retires (assumed 4 years for the sake of argument).. No, Chase will be in his 7th year in the NFL and there is much better starting talent to be had.

So why would we give him a pay raise to never start? Do we want a 1m+ clip board holder? We are against the cap and can not afford millions on a BU QB.

My prediction is someone offers him a few million to start for them, and he never wears a Saints jersey again. Same route as Jake Delhomme.

In all fairness when has he ever played? You can't judge the guy off of preseason or 1-4 victory formation snaps.

Chase Daniels reminds me of one of those guys that if we loose him to another team he will do great things. Just the way i see it
