If he came back I wouldn't be upset, I just didn't think we needes to persue him like he was all that.

a good 5 or 6 Nnamdi is struggling with the decision but he probably wouldn't start out in San Fran. I think that will be the decision maker for him. RR will get him ready to start for sure.

He made his 1 year big pay day now he can come back and play for market value. If he can clear medical evaluation with his seizures, I would be willing to take a look at him. His last year with us he was coming off of a knee injury and with the most of the year out with Denver he should be fully recovered. I also remember one of his injuries in 2010 was after a big hit he made against Tampa in the dome when he left the game on a stretcher. Yeah, for the right money i would take a look.

Cheaper isn't necessarily better on this occasion.

still say if
his med eval (head neck wrist knee) is ok
Contract demands are reasonable
sign him

The issue with him in coverage is he can be too overly aggressive. Looks to jump routes way too much. resulting in getting burned on dbl moves. But in his defense he got thrown in as a rookie in 2008. Now he He is at the top of the hump for developing CB. going into his 5th year should be prime time for him.

2008 lost most of his rookie season and placed on IR dislocating his wrist vs the vikes. A jump ball coverage and landed funky.

Haven't we seen enough bad coverages by defensive backs. The thing we have going for us now is that the DB's we have are young and could maybe be coached to become better. Porter and Nnamdi, ones to expensive (Nnamdi) and the other well can I say Porter reminds me of David if you know what I mean. I'll always be thankful for the interceptions during the SB run but that's it. Where ever he is let him stay there and I hope he's enjoying himself.

How can you continue to make that claim without any contract offer details being released to the public?!

How much money left under the cap to sign the positions needed and draft picks. Do you honestly believe he'll sign a low ball contract to play for the Saint's even though he's making 4 million from Phili. IMO he has a better chance of going to the 49ers.
You trying to resume what was started yesterday. If so please don't quote me just give you opinion.

Re: Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

It's really not a matter of what I believe or don't believe, because that's all it would be in the end. I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I'd prefer if we'd refrain ourselves from making statements like "Asomugha will be too expensive to sign," simply because that statement isn't based on any facts - it's merely an opinion based on a feeling.

What I know is that the market for CBs has been very inflated this year, and therefore the market value for premium CBs has been set at around $5M/yr for three to four years. Another thing I know is that Asomugha had two down years with the Eagles, which have also deflated his market value from what it was two seasons ago when he left the Raiders. And the last couple of things I know are that he was born in Lafayette, so he has that familiarity with the state and the Saints' franchise. And the other thing is that he would be playing under Rob Ryan under whom he played for all those years with the Raiders, so there'd be a familiarity with the DC and the defensive scheme, which would play to his strengths - press man coverage.

With those facts in mind, I do think that it's very possible that Asomugha would be willing to sign for about $3-4M/yr for two to three years. That would not be "low balling" him, but offering him an honest market value contract. For that type of money and with the very real possibility that Asomugha will elevate his game from what it was with the Eagles - I would not call his signing "too expensive," especially if he were to earn one of the starting positions at CB.

The remaining cap is irrelevant in this conversation, because the Saints have already made him an offer which they have deemed financially acceptable to them, so if Asomugha were to sign the offer - the Saints would find a way to fit his contract under the salary cap and that is what Mickey Loomis excels at.

The only facts you've pointed out is as follows:

1. Inflated market for CB
2. Born in Lafayette
3. Skills diminished with the Eagles

I have one FACT for you, if they don't generate any pass rush it doesn't matter who they sign at corner including Revis, no corner will be able to cover a NFL WR.
So in your way of thinking and the facts, if we sign a Nnamdi Asomugha it automatically gives us a better secondary based on what he did 3 years ago. REALLY!!!!!!!!

Six pages in and I'm still having trouble taking this thread seriously. Hell, if you're looking for a bargain, sign me! I'd be on the field as much, be able to cover nearly as well and I'd be able to pay off my truck! There'd be poor Malcolm having to do the safety and CB position again this year. Porter's worse days are just ahead. Hey Tracy, I think Oakland's on the phone...

Yes, those were pretty much the facts that I listed, only I'd put them as:

1. Inflated market for CBs has set the market value for premium CBs at around $5M/yr.
2. Deflated market value for Asomugha because of the Eagles years makes it unlikely he'd be offered a premium CB salary.
3. Louisiana native, which suggests possible emotional ties to the geographic location and to the Saints' franchise.
4. Familiarity with Rob Ryan and his scheme, which fits Asomugha's skill set.

As for the rest of your reply; I never made a claim that signing Asomugha would automatically make the Saints' secondary better, although it probably would. And I do share your sentiment about the need for an effective pass rush to support the secondary, but those two defensive units do compliment each other as in a good pass rush will most likely make the secondary look better and vise versa, so it's not just a "one way street" in that regard. My whole point was to caution against making statements about how expensive Asomugha will be to sign without actually basing that on any factual evidence; it was never about how he'd miraculously make the Saints' defensive backfield the best in the league along with the rest of the defensive unit.

As far as Asomugha's suggested diminished skill set goes, I trust that the Saints' FO and Rob Ryan can make that call better than I can based on the limited evidence I have at my disposal. If they were willing to offer him a contract, I trust that they feel comfortable in what Asomugha can bring to the table. If they have concerns, I again trust that the contract offer reflects that in either its overall value or in its construct, as in it including performance based escalators to compensate for lower base salary.

I wish you would read my replies more carefully, since it seems that you are drawing conclusions from them that I haven't intended... then again it might just be that I'm not making myself clear enough causing the misunderstandings.

With the exception of Will Smith and Roman Harper it doesn't look too bad. Not great, but it could be worse.

Not to much room to sign a good CB, LB and draft picks

Draft picks are cheap, and we're 3 million under with a few options.
