Agent: Packers getting ready to release Charles Woodson
The Packers are set to release defensive back Charles Woodson after he spent seven years in Green Bay. The news first appeared on the Twitter feed for Woodson's winery -- "Thank you Green Bay it was a great run!" -- and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted a short time later that Carl Poston, Woodson's agent, told him "They're getting ready to release him. It's part of the business."
Wooson, 36, spent the first eight years of his NFL career in Oakland. The former Michigan star won the Heisman Trophy in 1997 and was the fourth player taken in the 1998 NFL Draft. He's an eight-time Pro Bowler, an NFL Defensive Player of the Year as well as a Super Bowl champion. Woodson, who moved to safety late in his career after playing cornerback, has 55 interceptions and is undoubtedly a first-ballot Hall of Famer. But conversations about Canton are premature; Poston tells Rapoport that Woodson "Sounds like he has a lot of football left," and that his client would "like to go play for a contender, win another Super Bowl. He caught that bug." Woodson played in just seven games last season after suffering a broken collarbone. But given the NFL's continuing evolution as a passing league and the dearth of capable defensive backs to slow it, we're guessing Woodson won't be out of work long. Re: Agent: Packers getting ready to release Charles Woodson
Intriguing, but I don't think the Saints can afford him, and there would need to be some personnel changes in the DB department in order for him to get on the field - whether that be as a CB or as a S.

Re: Agent: Packers getting ready to release Charles Woodson
He may "sound" like his tank is full but does his play show it?
Are we that desperate that we chase anything that has a recognizable name these days? Nothing against Woodson but the barrage of "we should get" feels like we are grasping at straws. Woodson has lost his step Charles Woodson Stats - Green Bay Packers - ESPN Green Bay Packers to release Charles Woodson - NFL.com " He can cover on the inside, matches up well with athletic tight ends and is still disruptive around the line of scrimmage. His intelligence enables him to be a coach on the field and makes up for some physical limitations. Woodson always was a risk-taker, but that started to become a problem as he lost a step. You have to take the good with the bad when it comes to Woodson at this point of his career. There will be teams that want Woodson on the roster. He could be the missing veteran piece for an organization ready for a championship run." |

Bring him in, even at his age he is still miles better than any of our DB'S

The question is, is he Darren Sharper 2009, or 2010?
Huge difference. |
Re: Agent: Packers getting ready to release Charles Woodson
Now here's some questions: Does a player/coach's salary count totally against the cap? Does it count totally against the roster numbers? If not, let's bring Woodson and Reed in, pay'em a buttload as coaches and minimum as players. If Woodson doesn't have it, we could still profit amazingly from his experience on the sidelines.
