The day of reckoning finally came for Jerry Fontenot on Saturday. For the first time in his 15-year NFL career, the veteran center was told he was being released.

While the decision didn't come as a complete surprise, he said, it didn't make the reality any easier to stomach when Coach Jim Haslett broke the news to him Saturday morning.

I wouldn\'t be surprised to see Carolina pick him up. They have a need for linemen and he knows the Saints offensive and defensive gameplans.

I\'d say this is more than likely. Nothing like Jerry breaking down our game film with their defense...

He was such a good player though, wish him well.

I sincerely hope they have a good option at center if Bentley gets hurt. I am very sad to see Fontenot go, and I hope he is willing to return as a coach.
