NFL Rumors: Jermon Bushrod Is No Longer A Top Priority For The New Orleans Saints
 

It appears that the New Orleans Saints will might be willing to part ways with left tackle Jermon Bushrod. Bushrod is set to be an unrestricted free agent this off-season and the Saints might just let him walk. The Saints are going through salary cap restrictions for the second straight off-season and the team might not have the money to pay Bushrod.

The Saints are restructuring many contracts and signing exclusive rights free agents as the team tries to get under the salary cap. Bushrod was once thought to be a top priority for the Saints this off-season but now it appears the Saints are more concerned with staying under the salary cap.

As one of the better left tackles in the NFL Bushrod could easily demand a contract in the $5-$8 million per year range and the Saints really cannot afford to pay him that. Even with the Saints’ current salary issues there is another reason why Bushrod is no longer a top priority with the Saints.

The two-time Pro Bowler has said that he has yet to talk to the Saints about a new contract. This should be the biggest reason why Bushrod is no longer a priority and why he is likely done in New Orleans. If the Saints have yet to talk to Bushrod then he will likely have to test the free agent market but I am sure he will get picked up quickly.

Bushrod has had a good run with the Saints has helped the team establish one of the better offensive lines in the NFL. I know Drew Brees will miss his left tackle but the NFL is a business and Bushrod is set for a nice pay day, it just won’t be with the Saints.

Over time his contract is going to rob us of a lot of good players!! Bushrod did enough but I feel we could do better.

And the ability to sign quality FA defensive players! The salary Cap situation is going to make things ugly in a couple of years. Where are we going to get the money to pay some other players that will want to get paid. Charles Brown at LT and Strief at RT is scary! Just may happen.

I'm not really happy about this. I know the interior line is the most important part of the Saints protection scheme but you still can't plug just any scrub in at tackle.

I appreciate what Bushrod did for the team, But...
Maybe now the team can get a lineman that can block the edge on his own and Jimmy Graham won't have to stay in or chip on third down.
Then we get our TE back.
We'll be fine. Just like Strief, De La Puente... even Goodwin... We'll find another guy and Brees will make him look like a pro bowler.
You can't pay everyone...

But he's Drew Brees... he can't be blamed for anything
I mean I don't blame him. He's only had a 60 million dollar contract with the Saints so he needed his big pay day. Families have a hard time making ends meet off 60 million dollars..

1. This is a rumor...not a foregone conclusion.

2. If we lose him fine, if anything that'll force Payton to run the ball even more to protect Brees. Which i personally think is a good thing considering the number of RBs we have.

3. Please stop cryin about Brees' contract. Yes its a lot of money but we would all be sitting here cryin about how we don't have a capable QB if the Saints would have let him walk. Cuz if it wasn't gonna be us then he would have got paid by some other team more than willing to break the bank. And we would be stuck with a horrible defense AND offense.
