Salary cap not as bad as some think. According to ESPN.
Salary cap not as bad as some think. According to ESPN.
As of Friday, the Saints were about $13.5 million over the salary cap, but that was before linebacker Curtis Lofton restructured his contract. The Saints must be below the cap by March 12. Lofton's cap figure was scheduled to be $7.1 million. But the Saints were able to drop that number to $3.1 million by replacing a scheduled $5 million roster bonus with a $5 million signing bonus that will be pro-rated over the remainder of the contract. Information from ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas was used in this report. http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/pos...n-in-cap-space Lofton restructured we were less than 10 million over. After the cuts put us around 7 million over. Now if we are talking restructuring Smith and Vilma, WAIT A MINUTE - STOP !!!!! Would I trust ESPN's numbers? I thought we were 20 mill over? I think ESPN subtracted our cap savings in roster moves twice. 20 mill - 4 million from Lofton - 3 million in cuts so far = 13 million over Restructure Smith, Vilma and we should getting real close. But more might be needed Vilma $4.8 million in base salary and $8.6 million cap figure. Smith $9 million base salary and $14.5 million cap figure. http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/pos...ep-vilma-smith Am i wrong? :dunce: Did i miss something?:brood: |

We were 20 mill over, and restructured/released several players.
But we still haven't signed a LT or Center. Thats probably a 6 million adder right there. |

DLP will come cheap, Bushrod will walk cause Loomis will laugh at his contract demands and a replacement will be found either in FA or draft

2 million for DLP leaves 4 million for a LT. A 4 million LT is probably just a decent journeyman. A good LT is gonna be in the 6 to 7 million range all by himself. |

You buy the most expensive outfit, and when you put it on sometimes you can feel the lint in your pocket instead of the money that should be there inside the pockets..... Lol |

Loomis himself said in an interview recently that it wasn't as bad as everyone thought. He said the number was closer to 14 mil. As much as I hate and distrust ESPN, their numbers line up it would seem.
On another note, looks like I've finally hit 100 posts :-) |
